Never had a 1 star player like that... but I've had 1 star players who have played surprisingly well (for example, being able to be one of my top 3 starters on a championship team).

I had a 1-star player in our league (IOSBL) with the following line:
14-6 189ip 183h 45bb 132k 3.48 15-10 216ip 187h 47bb 174k 3.38 12-8 183ip 162h 57bb 131k 2.85 He was 32 midway through the last of his 2 years with me, when I traded him to the other league (8-4, 2.42 at that time).

I had a 2 and a half star pitcher that will be in the hall of fame but no lower than that. The stars can be deceptive. This pitcher had low ratings at ERA and hits allowed but everything else were 8's and above. He hardly ever gave up an extra base hit or walked anyone. To me those are the best pitchers. Alot of the higher star pitchers have low extra base hit ratings. That can hurt you.

Yea or they can have low BB & HR ratings. Those are 2 very important ratings when i judge how good a pitcher is

I've found that one-star pitchers can frequently be excellent. In the MBBA, my rotation last year featured three one star starters. One went 23-7 with a 2.90 ERA, and another 19-8 and 3.79. The third melted down, but batting .666 ain't too shabby. And the one that wasn't any good was coming off three consecutive years in which his highest ERA was 3.11.
My point being that stars aren't particularly relevatory for pitchers. You have to look at statistics and peripheral ratings, rather than just assume that the more pretty gold stars, the better. |

On the other hand, I've seen players with 3 or 3 1/2 stars that are horrible in my opinion. Poor or Fair ratings for average but Good or Brilliant for HR and avoid K's. The game still boosts for that HR power. But a .200 hitter isn't worth it.

I see alot of one star pitchers witl a low "stuff" rating but brilliant control and movement. They typically sign cheap and are my ace

If 1-star players are used properly, they can make a big difference for a team. There seem to be players who do very well in a backup/utility role, but if they get the start too often, they go right down the tubes.

Here's my favorite one star player. I was looking at the box score for the All-Star game one year and saw this guy had made the all star game but was only ranked one-star. On top of that, he was batting over .400. I thought it was a bug or something, but then saw he had a 10 in hits against lefties but a 0 against righties. Its the biggest split I've ever seen in the game. So I ended up trading for him and now I only use him against left handed pitching. If he lasts long enough, its possible that he could get on the career leader board for hits with the lowest amount of at bats in my league.

I don't remember Luis G. The Catcher having those ratings in my download of the roster, so I assume he just randomly developed like that.
But I've been wrong before once or twice, so who knows. |
