MVP - No 6... Barry Lamar Bonds.

AS in the headline- for once, the BBWA got it right on both the MVP's.

I'm absolutely shocked that Bonds won. He deserved it, IMO, but I was fairly certain that Pujols would win.

Truly an epic year for post-season awards. Only one, the NL ROY, did I have a sizable beef with.

I am not shocked Bonds won but I never would have guessed he'd receive 28 of 32 first-place votes.

I'm happy to see Gagne finish 5th.

I don't think Gagne was even the Dodgers MVP, but I suppose I'm biased against relief pitchers.

Oh christ, not that Mota was the Dodger's MVP crap again.
This is Barry's day, let's try not to ruin it!

You might try using that other hand too.

1. Bonds - 426
2. Pujols - 303
3. Sheffield - 247
4. Thome - 203
5. Lopez - 159
6. Gagne - 143

Hey he was the 52nd best player in baseball! He deserved at least as much consideration as the 7th best, right?

I suppose Abreu getting shafted is ok since the writers over-compensated for Coor's Park when voting for Helton again and it let Thome slide into 4th.

Yeah, but Ichiro would have deserved to finish higher than Abreu!

No question. Ichiro hit .312 to Abreu's .300. I wouldn't even attempt to argue that.

Juan Pierre was considered in the MVP balloting and had more votes than Vlad Guerrero, Andruw Jones, Luis Gonzales, Chipper Jones, and Jim Edmonds combined. Who would have predicted that on Opening day?

Actually, I was fairly certain about the NL- Im shocked the right thing happened in the AL. I hated the NL Cy Young, but if a reliver ever deserved it, this was the year- still, 70 innings requires a sizeable leverage index to be viable.

Btw, Juan Pierre- wow. not as bad as Shannon Stewart in the AL, but still- wow. Also, how does Schmidt finish ahead of Prior in the CY Young but behind him in the MVP ? Was Prior more clutch ?

The writers picked the right guy.

Gratz to Bonds.

Pujols will get his, assuming Barry isn't a robot who will never retire.
