Talent Developments for same teams every year!!!

This is really getting me angry.

I am in the 9th season of my sim league and the same exact teams get ridiculous talent increases every season. White Sox, Dodgers and Oakland (more the first two). Every year they get a bunch of studs. We have no coaches or scouts.

But its the SAME teams every damn year. It's completely ruining the parity in the league. The Dodgers have some of the most amazing pitching prospects I've ever seen in this league all developed out of nothing in the past 3 seasons.

I know people are going to come at me with "look at the cubs", but this is supposed to be random. It could ruin leagues.

Any other leagues find this happening?

It is definitely random, and it sure looks like those three teams have been extremely lucky!

Any possibility of the person (people?) running the sims to be cheating? If not, it is completely random as Markus said - 'cause I know more about the way the game was coded than he does, so I am much more trustworthy as a source than that Markus fellow. The emotion chip clouds his mind sometimes.

I've seen something similar, though perhaps not as bad. Two possible answers:
1) Simple luck, combined with the bullseyeing effect - in any random distribution, you're going to have the cases on either end (here, teams with a lot of increases and teams with few) - it's a mistake to draw a circle around those cases and ask what's so special about them, since they're just a natural effect of the random distribution.
2) Owners are finding a way to predict increases. I have heard that if you sim ahead several times, you get somewhat consistent results in ratings changes. I don't know if that applies to talent changes as well.

I find that there is usually nothing "random" about things that happen in an online league. You might want to consider moving to a league where things are not so "random".

I remember there being grumbling about this when OOTP4 was the current version. Markus made it clear then that things were totally random.

I haven't heard of anyone complaining about this with OOTP5.

Are you playing with scouts and coaches? If so, could really good coaches have had an effect?

I have seen nothing to suggest that there is anything less than a random distribution of talent bumps.

It's frustrating, but it *is* random.

Are you simming using he keyboard or the mouse? Left hand or right hand?

This plays a part you know.

I think it is all random, Qrash, in OOTP5 anyway.

well, my White Sox in the NAHHBL certainly haven't been on the receiving end of any special treatment.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

I was beginning to wonder if the thread originator was the GM causing a stir in the FBBL, til this post cleared that up.

I have very good reason to believe that the ratings changes are not entirely random - the guy who told me is the kind who tests everything carefully. Like I said, I don't know about the talents.
