Seattle sports thread

With the Mariners, Seahawks, Kraken, and Storm all doing well(and the Sounders normally doing well), why not have an all encompassing Seattle sports thread?

Will the Storm keep winning now that Bird is retired? Stewart is a free agent.

How much of a surprise has Geno Smith been for the Seahawks?? Nobody (Well maybe the Seattle brass) saw this unfolding. Great story in the league right now.

I think the Storm might have a one or two year down turn but be ok after that with their solid management.

As for the Seahawks I don't know which story is better, Smith outperforming Wilson or the Seahawks being on top of the division when they were picked to finish last.

I don't know much about Geno..but he appears to keen his head down and play. That much, I DO like.

Of all the surprises the NFL has to offer, this has to be the most unlikely.

I don't know of many quarterbacks that break out this late in their careers.

I'm rooting for the guy. I'm a Cowboys fan and I'm glad we played the Rams instead of the Seahawks this year.

I'm not sure why the Seahawks are 2.5 point underdogs against the Bucs(besides Tom Brady, who's not having his best year). I'd take those odds.

I saw Cowherd talking to Sean Payton and he said the best comp he could think of was Rich Gannon. I’d also point to Randall Cunningham, although Cunningham had a much longer first act. Steve Young, who I don’t think many people even remember the first act anymore but he was awwwwful in Tampa Bay. Or Vinny Testaverde, speaking of bad 80s Bucs QBs.

None of those guys are quite exactly like Smith but like all good QBs are different. It’s rare to see late bloomers like this but not unprecedented.

Julio Rodriguez wins the AL Rookie of the Year!

Will he ever be a 40/40 player?

I think getting Hernandez pretty much rules out Aaron Judge, but I'm happy we are getting more offense at a reasonable price. Now we just need an infielder and maybe Jose Abreau at DH?

As a Blue Jay fan sad to Hernandez bat go, but won't miss his error filled plays in the OF, He should be a DH only.

Kyle Lewis traded to the Diamondbacks. Kind of surprised by this.

Meh. He can’t play in the field anymore and the Mariners just don’t have a spot for him. Hummel seems interesting, like a late bloomer Haniger type guy, so we’ll see there.

In Kraken news, 2022 1st round pick Shane Wright was demoted to Coachella Valley. I wonder how much of this is his fault and how much is misuse by management. Why not just start him there at the beginning of the season.

That's one of those "you've got 9 games up top before we have to burn a year on your contract" deals, right? They probably planned it this way all along…give the kid a taste and then let him grow in the minors. Happens all the time.

(The Kings are trying to send Brandt Clarke on a "conditioning stint" to Ontario so that they don't have to send him back to juniors, which he's grown beyond. At least Wright gets to go directly to the AHL.)

While his 4 errors are probably above average and he may be of better use as a DH, I'm sure he will get his chances in the field as well.

Hawks, not so fast my friend!

Take the Seahawks off this "doing well" list. The bubble is burst and there is high confidence that the Seattle Seahawks will now lose out to end at 7-10. They could eek out one more win and though many Hawk-Homers would consider an 8-9 record as not so bad, it is still a losing season and continues a trend that could be difficult to reverse with this brain trust.

Geno Smith is still a good story. And Russell Wilson is still in contention for the Worst Trade In NFL History.
