What do I do after completing the Live Missions??

This is my second year playing Perfect Team. I love the format and the game itself as I am a huge baseball history fan. Last year I completed the Live Missions, settling into a Silver/Gold cycle. I didn’t mind the cycle but the leagues got boring because I kept seeing the same players on every team, including my own. So I decided to do a Baltimore Orioles theme team (sadly I’m a diehard Orioles fan), sold off all those SE rewards cards and made a whole team of Orioles. This team settled in as a middle of the road Bronze team and it was fun to watch Ripken, Brooks and Frank Robinson, Murray and Boog run the offense... but then the game became completely stagnant. I could never afford the most expensive players (SE Paul Blair and Mike Cueller come to mind), it felt like there was nothing else to do. Completing missions and opening packs wasn’t as fun with no change in sight for my team.

This year I’m on a similar path, completing the NL live missions by now and likely finishing the AL ones by the end of the month. I want to continue to enjoy this game through the summer and fall, so was wondering how everyone else plays the game after the live missions are complete (tournament and perfect drafts aside). This year I will probably just try to flesh out the post-live weaknesses, shoring up the bullpen and defense and playing with strategy and park factors.

For a F2P player, what missions are manageable after the live ones? Or should I just rip packs?

Sorry for the myriad of questions.

I’m F2P as well and have been making good progress on the BAL missions.

I'm a F2P player, and this year it seems easier to complete a lot more missions. Simply by ripping packs that I've won in the <= Bronze tourneys, I've completed all of the live series missions and most of the Bronze BAL, and some Silver.

The key is to earn packs by spamming tourneys that you can win. This can be tough if you can't access the game for a few minutes every hour or so to start tourneys, but if you have access to it, it's a good way to keep interested in your team.

I agree with everything you said about losing interest after a few months. That's happened to me since the beginning of PT. Then I just go back to the original game.

I'm F2P as well and I started with the 2021 Yankees team. My team mirrored the 2021 Yankees. It was fun and I ended up winning the championship.

After that I moved on to the missions. I didn't even know they existed so I have been enjoying them. Today I finally finished all the live missions and got Cy Young. (The Dodgers and Mets cost way too much money)

My team I have now, outside some current Yankees like DJ, Green, Chap, was done with rewards from the Missions. I love this option since I play F2P. Not sure what to work on next.

Tourneys are definitely key for F2P players. Speculation is the other way for F2P to make some PP and keep improving the team post-live-sets. The two most common forms of speculation are mission-based, and live cards. For missions the idea is to collect historical cards at low prices before the collection comes out, then sell for a lot. For lives, the idea is to try to predict which players will rise a level in the next update and invest at the lower tier price.

It was a LOT easier to complete the live missions this year, by design presumably. If anything, it was too easy - I assume the intent was to keep the MLB live cards relevant for longer as players actually bothered to collect them, but as it turned out halfway through May and we are already in a position where few have a use for them beyond 'live' tourney play. I doubt speculating is worth the trouble even if you are particularly good at it.

well if you like playing with good cards, those cost a lot of PP. Gotta make it somehow, and not everyone can rely on some lucky pack pull to finance their team.

The live missions will help you get a solid silver/ decent gold team and if you add some other solid players with those rewards you can have a pretty good gold team too; however, if you are F2P and want to play in diamond and potentially a perfect team you will have to get lucky with some pack draws. I changed my strategy this year and began ripping as many packs as I could in the early stages, I kept the cards I liked/ thought may have value later and sold everything else to get more packs. The more packs you open, the greater chance you have at getting cards worth over 200k. As a F2P player, my team is currently the 2nd best team in my gold league (based on rosters) and has been killing it. AH prices have fallen so the strategy isn’t as viable as it was a month or two ago, but I recommend trying it if you want to swim with the whales
