Contract extensions

As I see most players who have arbitration years ahead are not willing to sign long term contracts. I guess in these cases it makes no real sense to eytend with them for only one season. That could be done via arbitration, and possibly cheaper.

Some players will, some players won't. Like in real life.

I find that they agree to one-year salaries pretty close to what they are asking in arbitration.

Their value is their value

The arbitration number given is an estimate. In real life estimates may not be how something really turns out. Since OOTP is a very good game its arbitration estimates may not be how it really turns out.

If you can sign a player to a one year for up to the arbitration estimate its probably OK and eliminates unpleasant surprises.

Yes
I generally prefer to sign players to going to arbitration

If a player still has 3 arbitration years, and I sign him to a 1 year contract will he still keep the arbitration for the last two years? Or by signing a new contract all arbitration years are lost, and I have to sign him again and again to a one year contract if he does not want a long term deal?

Arbitration applies if you can't get a contract agreement in years 5 and 6.
