Season 17 (2036) - General Discussion

After my first 3 games in Diamond .353 -- I sit tied atop the division.

So, I'm here to announce my retirement from PT.

Green Dragons - promoted to Diamond .353
DBT Heathens - remain in Iron for the third week -- this week Iron .159
New York Mets - promoted from Rookie to Stone after a devastating playoff loss in the Sub series -- they will begin the week in Stone .112

Have a good week everyone, have fun!

Will be interesting to see how the Dawgs are doing when I get home tonight. Training Pesky at 2B and Jackie 97 at 3B.

I actually picked up a Jackie 97 and put him at 2B while I train Eddie Collins (100) over at 3rd.

Let me know how Jackie is doing over at 3B, 2tango2!

If you look all the way at the bottom of the standings in your Diamond league you'll see me down there. The jump from Gold to Diamond has been pretty rough for my team so far.

I firmly expect to be occupying a condo on Relegation Ave by the end of this week.

And yes, my team, particularly my pitching staff, has not adjusted well to the jump to Diamond yet either.

I'm at the point where i don't even feel like logging in to most of my teams until the end of the week.

Only my Special Edition only team is keeping my interest at present (it's mostly not the Live SE cards, but they are used as fillers) using guys like Jim Ray Hart, Tony Fernandez and Willie McGee

The Port Dawgs jumped out to a quick 7-1 start but have slumped a bit since to end day 1 at 14-12. It could be a little bit of a sophomore slump in Diamond after a terrific year last year.

Trying to head off a plunge into an abyss, the Dawgs announce some changes. Matt Harvey was sent to the bullpen after getting lit up badly in 2 of 3 starts. He fared no better there giving up 11 runs in like 5 innings. He has been outrighted to AAA. Bobo Newsome takes his place in the pen where he actually began the year and pitched well. To replace Newsome, John Tudor was picked up and inserted into the rotation.

Duke Snider has been struggling in LF this year so Pete Rose was moved there full-time from 1B. Ichiro was moved back to RF with Mantle patrolling in CF. The Bags/Helton platoon was reinstated. Will monitor how that goes to see if a Puljols or Miggy needs to come in full time there.

Robinson and Pesky are progressing nicely at 3B and 2B respectively with Pesky training up much faster and swinging a nice stick. Jackie got off to a blistering start but has settled down into the .260 range.

Management is demanding on this team....

Well, it's season 17...

Longview Woodchucks are not starting well, 7-19 in Bronze 207, 10 games out of first. Bottom of conference in six offensive categories. This could be their long season.

Nacogdoches Jacks are 16-11, two games out of first in Stone 223. Two starters ERAs over 7.50. Ozzie Albies hitting over .400, a mixed bag of results so far.

Stephanie's Neffin-neffs, downgraded to Iron 202 and getting some changes as a result, are 17-8, top in division and third best overall. Best overall in the same six offensive categories and middle of the pack pitching. They might do well this season.

Overall, a mixed bag of candy peanuts. Let's see what tomorrow brings.

My 97 Jackie started off very slow, but has since started to come around. He's now batting .227, but playing well at 2B. Meanwhile, over at the hot corner, Eddie Collins has taken well to his training on the defensive side and is already at an 82 rating there after 39 games. It seems to have stalled there a little, so I'm hoping that number continues to rise. The new position affected Eddie at the plate for the first few weeks, but once he got comfortable there, his batting average started to rise -- he's now at .270 and his usual outstanding OBP is also on the rise, now up to .371.

The Dragons are feeling there way through their first season in Diamond with a 19-20 record after 39 games. Middle of the pack in the league -- which ownership is fine with at this time. The team has many more moves it needs to make if it wants to challenge for a championship at this level. Early on, we took a couple of really bad losses on the chin with teams putting up some big numbers on us, but the pitching staff has seemed to settle in a little bit now and they're figuring things out.

Management is getting an idea of what pieces we might need to move around if we want to become a playoff team. We currently sit 2 GB in our division (3 in the loss column), but 5.5 out of the 2nd WC (6 in the loss column).

Revolving door at that 5th SP has struck again. Tudor got KILLED in 3 starts. 11 IP 28HA Not only was he let go, I personally drove him to the airport lol

Timed the AH right and snagged Addie Joss. Rotation is 99 Maddux, Lyons SE, Pettitte, Deacon Philippie and Joss. Everyone in the SP has sub 4 ERA's except for supposedly the best of the group. Maddux is just under 6....

Hitting has woken up a bit so hoping that this ship can be righted a bit with continuing solid starts from the rotation....

Pesky is now up to 97 at 2B and Jackie is in the high 80's at 3B. Hopefully they can top out soon and get the ZR back in positive numbers. I'm not positive but have a feeling that when training up the defense get's porous until they reach their potential?

This week looks like another one that will lead nowhere at all. Mets are a sturdy .500, while the Cookie Cruncher Critters are narrowly leading their division, but there are some red flags in their stats... like the opposite hitters' BABIP being approximately negative .129 ....

After starting off the season 1-7 we have started playing better, winning 8 of the last 10 and sit at 24-28 on the year.

4k points for the Raccoons for a 13-run comeback!

Well, why did you allow 20 runs in the first place though?? I just can't watch this team anymore! - Maud! - Maud!! - Why have you hidden the blunderbuss again!? - This *is* an emergency application, Maud!

Its looking likely that i'll have 2 teams relegated from Diamond and 1 from Gold in the same week, last season the gold team made the playoffs in gold. Every player on every team is currently underperforming

The Colonels are in a 20-team league this week. We had a good first half, currently in first place at 50-35 with a 4.5 game lead. Newcomer Tommy McCarthy has a slash line of .335/.416/.543 and 24 SBs already. He is headed for a 6 WAR season at this pace.

I picked up another base stealer that fits my contact/range strategy. John Montgomery "Monte" Ward is currently training at third base, and he is picking it up quickly (0 to 60 in only 14 games played). Ward is off to a slow start with the bat, but I expect this now for new players that are training at a new position. He has reached base 16 times and stolen 9 bases (0 caught) so that bodes well. I am beginning to really like these 19th century players.

I now have four premier base stealers in Ward, McCarthy, Ichiro, and Ray Chapman. I am already over 100 stolen bases but I am not happy with the 72% success rate. I am working on the individual sliders to tweak that up to 80%+ so that I don't give up so many baserunners. Even with the reckless running, I lead the conference in nearly every offensive category expect HRs (dead last with 74 - under 1 per game).

If we continue to play well, we stand a good chance of going to diamond next season. I will probably not survive relegation with my non-upgraded SE pitching staff but it would be good to see what other teams are using there before spending any points on expensive arms.

The Magpies are also in a short league--just 24 teams. At the All-Star break they are in first place by one game. Very surprising since 1 division opponent routinely wins 110+ in diamond and another is a 90+ game winner. The last team in my division is the Huntley Red Raiders who we haven't heard much about lately. They have rebounded from a horrific 0-9 start to play .500 ever since.

Unable to follow through on my plan of waiting until 90% of "content" is released, I buy Ron Guidry, to bolster the starting rotation. Hudson moves to the pen and Nathan waves good-bye, although I'm not really sure who my worst pitcher is. I still have 800K+ and a fair number of hoarded golds and diamonds with which I hope to score big gains as FotF is released, but I'm not actively speculating on these cards. Somebody, in his wisdom, apparently tipped the Discord on George Brett of the Royals being in the first batch and every KC historical gold is currently priced around 15K. Nice going, pal!

Hey, now, I prefer to remember it as a 1-12 start, thank you very much. And we were barely keeping afloat with our heads above the Relegation Zone quite nicely until somebody just swept us, extending our current losing streak to 6 and dropping us into said Relegation Zone (see below).

Not that I'm bitter.

And I actually am not bitter! With the combination of a short league, stiff competition, and expanded Relegation Zone, things have been stacked against the Red Raiders' continued presence in Diamond from the start. Avoiding relegation would be an impressive achievement; let's see if the boys are up to the task!

A follow-up: This is not the "Who's Hot/Who's Not" balance one likes to see in a Perfect Team.

Interesting. Nice to see Mr. Guidry on the list, and I can note in his last game v the Red Raiders took a no-hitter into the 8th inning. The 'pies are still in 1st by 1 game although tied in the loss column.
