DELMARVA Baseball League - WBC Tourney

A World Baseball Classic DelMarVa Baseball League Style
As a spin-off from my DelMarVa Baseball League I have decided to run a World Baseball Classic type of tournament. I created some regions to make the tourney a little more competitive, trying to balance the "world" and the US power. So, there will be 4 teams from the US and 8 teams from different country or regions.

The format of the tournament will be 3 groups, each group will have 4 teams. The teams will play each other 3 times, for a total of 6 games. The winner of the groups will move forward to the single elimination tree. Since, I needed 1 more team I decided to add a wild-card game. The wild card teams will be the top-2 teams from the remaining 9 teams. If there is a tie there will be a playoff game to determine who moves on.

The 6 teams moving on to a single elimination style tournament, will be seeded based on winning percentage, with the 2 wild-card teams, playing an extra game to see who will play the #1 seed. The winner of the single elimination tourney will be crowned the champion.

League Notes: This is the DBL as of 11/15/2037, I made a copy of the league so I don't interfere with my off-season, and I wanted to remove all injuries so players like Robert Shepherd will be available to compete...

There are 30-man rosters and the DH will be used.

Now on to the tourney breakdown

Group A: United States
Team 1 is Team USA - DelMarVa, which consists of players from the original 3-states of the DBL, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and DC.
Team 2 is Team USA - North East, which is basically New England along with New York. The abbreviation NE is sometimes confused as New England. The states: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Team 3 is Team USA - East, which consists a mix of states from PA to FL: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia
Team 4 is Team USA - West, which consists of the rest of the states: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming

Group B: Americas/Caribbean
Team 1 is South America, which consists of mostly of players from Venuzuela, and a few from Colombia.
Team 2 is the Domincia Republic, this team is made of all Dominican players.
Team 3 is Puerto Rico, a team made up of all Puerto Rican players
Team 4 is Central America including Mexico, which consists mostly of Mexican and Panamanian players, with some other from Nicaragua and Cost Rica.

Group C: Europe/Asia
Team 1 is Asia and Africa, this team consists primarily of Japanese players, but there are some from Korea and Taiwan as well.
Team 2 is Canada and Europe, this team consists of players from Canada and a few from Germany and Italy.
Team 3 is Cuba and Russia, which is made up of all Cuban players.
Team 4 is Dutch Territories and Australia, which is made up of primarily of players from Australia with other players from the Nederlands, Curacao, Netherlands Antilles, Aruba and St Martin.

I put the USA teams in the same bracket thinking they would dominate but looking at the rosters, I am not 100% sure that will happen, as Team Dominican and Team Puerto Rico look pretty awesome.

I will be managing Team USA - DelMarVa

Now onto the teams...

5-Star Players: 1
4+ Star Players: 1

5-Star Players: 1
4+ Star Players: 9

Team USA - North East (or New England)

Team USA North East will be another team to reckon with. Power hitters and a solid bullpen will keep them in games. They may not have the depth at pitcher as the East, but they will be a solid team.

Top Pitcher: CL John Perez, Milton
Top Hitter: 3B Brian Anderson, Newark

5-Star Players: 1
4+ Star Players: 12
3+ Star Players: 7

Another team with no players representing Chadds Ford, but a couple of players from my past: Teo Ha, Doug Brown, and John Perez.

SS John Shelton, Christiana/A
3B John Minor (L), Washington
C Marvin Garrett, Lewes
RF Ricardo Hildalgo, Washington
LF Dave McGinnity (L), Wilmington
DH Artie Hamilton (S), Milford
3B Brian Anderson, Newark
CF Maxmillion Wallstreet (L), Wilmington
2B Howard Cooke (S), Chesapeake

Team USA - West

Team USA - West has the pitching when it comes to roster make-up in Group A, with 4 of their top 5 players all pitches, including 3 starters. If pitching gives you an advantage they will make a run for the title.

Top Pitcher: SP Bob Davis, Norfolk
Top Hitter: 2B Melvin Hall, Richmond

5-Star Players: 0
4+ Star Players: 10
3+ Star Players: 5

We finally see some Chadds Ford players making an appearance with John Robertson, from CA, Robert Shepherd, from UT, and Eugene Todd, from CA, all being selected to play with Team West.

CF Mike Fritz, Salisbury
SS Brian Battle, Martinsburg
C Alonso Sierra, Free-Agent
1B Eduardo Juarez (L), New Castle
DH Chris Watson, Harrington
2B Melvin Hall, Richmond
2B Melvin Wallstreet, King George
3B John Wood, Ocean City
RF Cornell Wright (L), Cape May

SP Robert Shepherd (L), Chadds Ford
SP John Smith, Seaford
SP Bob Davis, Norfolk

Team South America

Team South America is stacked and should be a contender for the title. They have a solid pitching staff and a very powerful lineup. Their D might not be the best, but their pitching and offense might be able to carry them. They are in a tough group, but they are a team to watch.

Top Pitcher: Gonzalo Bustamante, Free-Agent
Top Hitter: Salvador Espinosa, Washington

5-Star Players: 5
4+ Star Players: 11
3+ Star Players: 6

The Cannons are represented by two players, SP Dani Rubio and SS Jose Ayala. Ayala will be our starting SS next season, and I can't wait to see what he has... along with those are two ex-Canons Ruben Dano Dasmarinas and Carlos Sanchez.

Line Ups:
CF Salvador Espinoza, Washington
3B Tomas Murillo, Newark
C Gabriel Castellanos, Washington
LF Lorenzo Montoya, Christiana
DH Oliver Ramos, Norfolk
1B Manuel Miranda (L), Washington
RF Gabriel Martinez, Milton
2B Juan Garcia, Annapolis
SS Antonio Guillen, Ocean City

SP Fernando Fareles, Lewes
SP Gonzalo Bustamante, Free-Agent
SP Jesus Cruz (L), Baltimore
SP Sancho Acevedo, Baltimore
CL Ruben Dano Dasmarinas, Dover

Team Central America w/ Mexico

Team Central America/Mexico consists of a mix of youth and veteran leadership. They will be an underdog but a team you can't count out. There are some prospects to keep your eye on and in the end who knows what will happen.

Top Pitcher: Ricardo Gonzalez, Milford
Top Hitter: Francisco Villalobos, Lewes

5-Star Players: 1
4+ Star Players: 2
3+ Star Players: 5

There are a couple of Chadds Ford minor leaguers representing the Cenral America/Mexico, AAA pitcher Alejandro Heredia, and A 2B Luis Guerrero. Ex-Cannons Villalobos, Raul Martinez and Jose Lopez are also on this team.

Line Ups:
LF Jorge Gallegos, King George/A
CF Aurelio Rodriguez, Virgina Beach
DH Robert Flores, Christiana
2B Francisco Villalobos, Lewes
RF Pedro Diaz (L), Christiana/AAA
3B Angel Hernandez, Christiana/AAA
1B Jorge Trujillo (L), Dover
C Pancho Cota, Newark/AAA
SS Jose Barrios, Dover/S-A

SP Ricardo Gonzalez, Milford
SP Luis Ventura (L), Salisbury
SP Jose Lopez (L), Georgetown
SP Raul Martinez, Milford

Team Dominican Republic

Team Dominican Republic could possibly be the deepest team in this tourney. If they have a weakness it might be their starting pitching, but this is the team that everyone is talking about winning this inaugural WBC.

Top Pitcher: Miguel Angel Gonzalez, Norfolk
Top Hitter: Rafael Estrada, Baltimore

5-Star Players: 5
4+ Star Players: 14
3+ Star Players: 9

The Cannons are represented by Julio Casanes, but there are a lot of familiar faces on this team: MA Gonzalez, Joaquin Hernandez, Roman Cruz, and Angel Nasquez.

Line Ups:
2B Jose Huerta (L), Cape May
RF Rafael Estrada (L), Baltimore
C Hector Pagan, Richmond
LF Jesus Hernandez (L), Washington
DH Jose Rodriguez, Chesapeake
1B Juan Morales (L), Ellicott City
SS Ramon Lorenzo (S), Norfolk
3B Enrique Lopez, Seaford
CF Octavio Lopez, Seaford

SP Joaquin Hernandez, Norfolk
SP Joan Gonzalez, Norfolk
SP Juan Durango, New Castle
SP Jose Lerma, Lewes
CL Miguel Angel Gonzalez, Norfolk

Team Puerto Rico

With Puerto Rico in Group B it makes this group possible the toughest group of the bunch. This team might be even more powerful than the Dominican team if that is possible. They have two solid starters and sometimes that is all you need.

Top Pitcher: Chris Brock, Georgetown
Top Hitter: Patrick Coates, Milford

5-Star Players: 11
4+ Star Players: 12
3+ Star Players: 6

No players from Chadds Ford on the roster, but a lot of players I have coached over the years, such as Chris Brock, Ex-Cannon John Denton, and Ernie Kennedy.

Line Ups:
LF Howard Gray (L), Seaford
3B Rafael Ramirez, Annapolis
CF Tyrone Jackson (S), Martinsburg
2B Patrick Coates (L), Milford
DH Peter Mrdja, Salisbury
SS Leo O'Connor, Annapolis
RF Ray Crowe (S), Lewes
1B Allan Cameron (L), Annapolis
C Elwood Krause, Seaford

SP Chris Brock, Georgetown
SP Jose Hernandez, Baltimore
SP John Denton, Georgetown
SP Bud Jackson, Lewes
CL Scott Vanciny, Ocean City

(I must of messed up this region, as there is only one player from Puerto Rico on this team, but I can't figure out what I did. Oh well they will just be a powerhouse that I will root against.)

Team Canada & Europe

Team Canada & Europe is a mostly Canadian team, with a few Europeans mixed in. They aren't a great team, but they are a team that shouldn't be taken for granted.

Top Pitcher: Cal Lawton, Milford
Top Hitter: Pete Wyman, Christiana

5-Star Players: 1
4+ Star Players: 1
3+ Star Players: 2

There are a three Chadds Ford players on the roster and all three of them I will be watching closely, especially SS Otto Carillo. The other's are Jimi Morlini and Gallen Krall.

Line Ups:
CF Leone Llanfranchi (L), Cape May/A
2B Evan Gowing, Dover
RF Ulbrecht Gette (L), Martinsburg
LF Pete Wyman (S), Christiana
DH Teagen Welshman (L), New Castle
C Alton Howard, Harrington
SS Otto Carillo, Chadds Ford/AAA
3B Erasmus Schiffer, Newark

Team Dutch Territories & Australia

Team Dutch Territories & Australia is a nice of players from multiple spots, the Caribbean, Netherlands and Australia, maybe the most diverse team in the tourney. I am going to be rooting for them, well not more than my team, but you know.

Top Pitcher: CL Travis Abadee, Chesapeake
Top Hitter: C Gabriel Krook, Baltimore

5-Star Players: 1
4+ Star Players: 2
3+ Star Players: 2

This team might be the team in the tourney with the last amount of faces I can recognize. There is one player on our team, who will probably be our 4th outfielder next season, in Russell Worsfold... and then there are a couple of ex-Cannons Blake Ballard and Melis Colin.

Line Ups:
SS Wladmir Bonis (L), Cape May
2B Ed Attwood, Seaford
C Gabriel Krook, Baltimore
1B Melvin Rijsdijk, Cape May
DH Samuel Darcey (L), Georgetown
LF Rob Middelkoop (L), Ocean City
RF Roderick Thome (L), Seaford
3B Wendel van Halen (S), Ocean City
CF Rick Budd, Lewes/SA

SP Rodney Glatz (L), Chesapeake
SP Travis Abadee, Chesapeake (known as one of the games top closers)
SP Blake Ballard, Annapolis
SP Theo Bomas, Salisbury
CL Adrie Willems, Free Agent

Team Asia & Africa

Team Asia & Africa, well this is really just Team Asia this season, but I did want to make sure that Africa would be represented when/if they ever have a player good enough. Team Asia is going to be a solid team with some really big bats, including 2x MVP Okubo. They should be fun to watch.

Top Pitcher: SP Nobukazu Higashi, Dover
Top Hitter: 1B Naoaki Okubo, Georgetown

5-Star Players: 2
4+ Star Players: 8
3+ Star Players: 2

There are 2 Chadds Ford players on the team, Ying-Hua Ji and Mu-Sang Kim. And along with them there are a few ex-Cannons Higashi, Tadasuke Uenohara, Hee-Seop So, Gwang-Soo Cho and Sung-Il Kwon.

Line Ups:
3B Kang-Min Yun, Georgetown
DH Yasushi Fujimoto, Norfolk
1B Naoaki Okubo (L), Georgetown
RF Tadiyuki Kiyomizu, Georgetown
CF Takamuku Shibata, Norfolk
LF Masaka Ishii, Martinsburg
C Tetsu Takata (L), Free-Agent
2B Mu-Sang Kim (L), Chadds Ford
SS Teh-Huai Tao, Milford

SP Ying-Hua Ji (L), Chadds Ford

Team Cuba & Russia

Team Cuba & Russia, is only represented by Cubans this season, and they will be an underdog... but an underdog that shouldn't be forgotten as they have a couple of strong starters on the staff. The big question is will they score runs?

Top Pitcher: Julio Rocha, Washington
Top Hitter: Antonio Cortes, Georgetown

5-Star Players: 0
4+ Star Players: 1
3+ Star Players: 2

There are no Chadds Ford players or ex-players and only 2 players that I have crossed paths with. First, is Juan Hernandez, who I coached in Norfolk and Georgetown... then he became too expensive for my blood. Second is Esteban Calamacho who didn't leave a memorable mark.

Line Ups:
SS Felix Morales, Wilmington/A
LF Ivan Murillo (L), Salisbury/AAA
1B Juan Negron, Harrington
RF Juan Hernandez, Milford
C Martin Martinez, Georgetown/AA
CF Manuel Collazo, Cape May/AAA
3B Hector Perez, Ocean City
DH Paco Garcia, Seaford/AAA
2B Cesar Reyes, Virginia Beach/AAA

SP Antonio Cortes (L), Georgetown
SP Julio Rocha (L), Washington
SP Victor Guzman, Ocean City
SP Esteban Calamacho, Balitmore
CL Jorge Matos, Annapolis

Day 1 Schedule

Day one should be a fun day with some really good match-ups on hands.

In Group A we will see US New England take on US West, and the US East go up against the US DelMarVa. With some of the games top pitchers taking the hill, including Robert Shepherd and Gabino Miller.

In Group B we get to see the powerhouse Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Will South or Central America have a shot against these teams? Are they really going to be that good? A lot of people are excited to see if Fernando Fareless and Ricardo Gonzalez can shut down the favorites.

In Group C which should be a fun group the Dutch/Australian team takes on Cuba, and Asia takes on team Canada/Europe. Can the Cuban's behind 39-year-old veteran Antonio Cortes get a big W? Can Canada/Europe hold their own against Asia?

Day one of the Tourney should be a fun one...

For the DelMarVa team we will have our Ace Gabino Miller on the mound, and I am hoping our offense will be able to give him enough support. Here is what our lineup looks like for game one, up against the tough Anthony Sinclair:

3B Alan Carson (S)
C Will Lewis (L)
RF Mark Hayes (L)
1B Jimmy Moore (L)
DH Leslie Barnes (S)
LF Ramiro Herrera (L)
2B Jon Fleming (S)
CF Walt Hutchins
SS Alonso Sandoval (L)

I don't know much about these players, but I am hoping they can work the count get on base, play some small ball and have the big bats of our 2-3-4 hitters knock them in.

Day 1 - Recap

Team USA - DelMarVa Recap
The DelMarVa Bunch had a rough game in Game 1, as we fell to the East. It was a battle and in the end our bullpen couldn't get the job done. We fell back quickly 3-1 after 2 1/2, but in the third we were able to score 3 times to take the lead. We gave up the tying run in the 7th and in the 9th our pitchers couldn't get the job done. Bernard McCormick working into his 3rd inning, but only had 16-pitches thrown, gave up a single, then a walk, and that was enough to get pulled... but Kerry Neal, walked the next two, plating the lead-off man Marcos Nunez, before pitching out of the jam. In the bottom half we couldn't get anything but a pinch hit single.

We had a lot of missed opportunities, 2 missed sac bunts, and 2-big errors. A tough loss in game one puts us in the whole for this tourney.

Jimmy Moore: 3-5, 2B, R, RBI
Ramiro Herrera, 2-5
Will Lewis, 2-5, R
Steve Garner 1-1, RBI (PH)
Gabino Miller: 6.0 IP, 8 H, 4 R, BB, 9 K, 2 HR
H: 12, LOB: 11

Games Recap:
Team USA - East battled in a up and down game and never gave up and took home a big day 1 victory thanks to control issues in the 9th.

Team USA - New England showed they know how to win, scoring 8 runs on 7 hits and taking down Golden Arm pitcher Robert Shepherd.

Team Dominican Republic scored early thanks to 2-solo HR's to erase a great pitching performance and avoid the upset.

Powerhouse Team Puerto Rico showed they can win without the long-ball scoring 7 times with only 1-blast, and thanks to their pitching took home a big W.

Team Cuba who many thought didn't have a chance came up with a HUGE first game win, scoring 6 times and despite giving up 10 hits was able to secure the only first game shut-out.

Team Asia looked good behind a solid pitching performance and was able to shut-down Team Canada/Europe. Looking like a well established contender team Asia scored 9 times to support their ace.

Day 2 - Schedule

Day 2:
Group A:

Team USA - DMV takes on Team USA - East in the last game they will play against each other in Round 1. DelMarVa will hope that Julian Tover can keep the power hitting bats (Ryan Hunt and Fred Ryan) of the East at bay.

Group B:
Team Puerto Rico takes on Team South America. Team South America fell just short to Team Dominican, but they will be tested with their #2 pitcher Gonzalo Bustamante on the hill.

Group C:
Team Canada/Europe take on Team Netherlands/Australia both teams looking for their first win. This is a big game for these two teams as the Dutch have decided to pitch Trevor Abadee, who is known for his dominance in the 9th inning.

The first day winners Team Asia and Team Cuba go head to head. Team Cuba who many have counted out have another ace on the hill in Julio Rocha, but the bats of Cuba will be facing off against Nobukazu Higashi an ace in his own right. Might be the game of the day.

Day 2 - Recap

I decided to go with a little different lineup for today's game going with a little better defense and this is what it looked like.
CF Walt Hutchins
C Will Lewis (L)
RF Mark Hayes (L)
1B Jimmy Moore (L)
DH Steve Garner
LF Ramiro Herrera (L)
2B Jon Fleming (S)
3B Dragon Karadzic
SS Alonso Sandoval

This was a must win and the pressure was on Jorge Tovar and he came through for me. He pitched 6 shut-out innings before running out a steam in the 7th... but in that time we were able to get a big 8-0 lead (thank goodness) in large part thanks to Mark Hayes who had a day to remember going 3-3 with a double and 2 HR's, he drove in 6 and walked 3 times. He carried this team.... In the 7th though the game got close with Team East plating 7-runs thanks to a poor outing by AAA pitches Alvin Richardson. Alvin faced 4 hitters and gave up 3 hits and a walk before giving way to John O'Cawley who shut the door and gave us a HUGE win.

Walt Hutchins: 1-4, 2B, 3 R
Mark Hayes: 3-3, 2B, 2 HR, 2 R, 6 RBI
Matt Fontenot: 1-2, RBI (he is 2 for 2 as a PH)
Jon Fleming: 2-3, 2B, RBI
Alonso Sandoval: 2-3, 3 R
Jorge Tovar (1-0): 6.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, BB, 6 K
John O'Cawley (SV 1): 2.2 IP, BB, K
H: 14, LOB: 12

Games Recap:
Team USA - DMV
earned their first win thanks to a solid start and a power display.

The loaded Team Puerto Rico improved their record to 2-0 thanks to great pitching and 2 solo-shots.

Team Canada won a nail biter thanks to wonderful start in a true pitching duel.

Team Cuba once again showed they shouldn't be counted out pulling off the huge upset and improving their record to 2-0.

Day 3 - Schedule

A full day on the schedule to day, and Team USA - DMV has to play one more before we get a day off.

Group A:
Team USA - DMV faces off with Team USA - New England with their #3 starter in hopes to give Team New England a big L. Team USA - New England has one of the brightest stars on the hill and aims to prove they are the best of Group A. Does Team USA - DMV have some magic left in them?

Team USA - West takes on Team USA - East. Team USA - East will try to bounce back from a tough loss on Day 2 but they face off against a tough pitcher John Smith. Can Robbie Kelly match him? This is a big game for both teams as they both try to avoid L #2.

Group B:
Team Central America takes on Team Dominican Republic in a huge game for Team Central America. They face off against a tough Dominican team with a solid 23-year-old on the hill in Luis Ventura. Can Team Dominican show they are a force to be reckoned with?

Team South America will try to avoid being the first 3-loss team as they go for the upset against Team Puerto Rico. They held their own against them yesterday, will today be different?

Group C:
Team Cuba
tries to go to 3-0 as they take on Team Canada. This is a big game for both teams if Cuba wins they make themselves the favorites, if Canada wins its anyone's Group.

Team Dutch-Australia take on Team Asia. The Dutch team is another team trying not to go 0-3, as they face off against a team that was outplayed on Day 2. Will Asia find their bats? The pressure is Blake Ballard and Team Dutch-Australia

Day 3 - Results

I am not really sure what to expect from this game. I decided to go with Bob Spears over who the manager chose, only because he has more movement and better control, but I will have a short hook with the day off tomorrow it is all hands on deck. I don't think Miller will be ready to go Game 4, but if it is a must win I might not have a choice. We are worried about Hugh Duncan he is an ace, so we have our hands full... that being said we scored a lot last game so the lineup is the same, expect Barnes is replacing Garner at the DH role...

CF Walt Hutchins
C Will Lewis (L)
RF Mark Hayes (L)
1B Jimmy Moore (L)
DH Leslie Barnes (S)
LF Ramiro Herrera (L)
2B Jon Fleming (S)
3B Dragon Karadzic
SS Alonso Sandoval

This was a pitching duel, as our pitchers, all three of them, stepped it up and held the North East team at bay. It was however a game of missed opportunities by the offense... In the first with 2-outs and runners on first and second, Leslie Barnes struck out... In the third with a Walt Hutchins on second and 1-out we failed to get him home... In the fifth a lead-off walk was followed by a failed sac-bunt. Two batters later with runners on 1st and 3rd, Mark Hayes strikes out... After a 2-run blast by Jimmy Moore cut the score to 3-2, we put runners on first and second, with two outs, but Dragon flew out to end the threat... and finally in the 9th, after a lead-off single was followed by Walt Hutchins popping out the bunt to first, Will Lewis and Mark Hayes would go down swinging... That was the game.

Bob Spears (0-1): 4.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 4 K
Bernard McCormick: 1.2 IP, BB, K
Shawn Anderson: 2.0 IP, 2 BB, K
Jimmy Moore: 3-4, 2B, HR (1), R, 2 RBI (now hitting .500 on the tourney)
Will Lewis: 3-5, R
H: 9, LOB: 9

Our hero from game 2 Mark Hayes went 0-5 with 3 K's and 6 LOB's.

Group A:
Team USA - New England
remained the only unbeaten team in Group thanks to a great pitching performance and a big 2-run blast.

Team USA - East bounced back from their L yesterday to remain alive in a wild extra inning affair

Group B:
Team Puerto Rico
hit their groove in today's game scoring 8 and allowing 0.

Team Dominican stayed undefeated with a big win, thanks to a powerful offensive demonstration.

Group C:
Team Asia
bounced back after a surprising loss to take home a big W thanks to jump start scoring 6 in the first 2.

Team Cuba continued their dominance thanks to another shut-out! They are dreamers but they are contenders too.

Day 4 - Schedule

Well Team USA - DelMarVa has the day off and I hope it is enough time to get our ace rested so he can come back tomorrow. We need him to win some games and we will be hard pressed to make the single-elimination tourney if we lose again...

Group A:
Team USA - West
will try to get their first W while Team USA - New England tries to stay undefeated. Solid pitching match-up should keep this game interesting. Team West doesn't want to take another L and fall 3 games back.

Group B:
Team Dominican Republic
will try to get a big W and keep pace with the Group B leader, while Team Central America/Mexico try to stave of elimination. Dominican Republic beat Central America 9-2 yesterday and are out to prove they are the team to beat.

On a side note: Team Puerto Rico has been found guilty of gerrymandering as their region consisted of the United States upon further investigation. Despite the ruling the DBL Commissioner has decided not to punish them during this seasons World Baseball Classic. However, they will be punished in 2039, when the next DBL WBC takes place... All players with duel Nationalities, including Puerto Rican, will be selected by their non-Puerto Rican representative country... as for now they still haven't won anything, and still have a long way to go.
