Worst season ever...
Looking over some of my leagues today and I found this guy. He is in the PECOS league. This league seems to be a complete disaster compared to some of the other independent leagues. Very high ERA's and batting averages. Not sure if they just have a bad crop of players.. will be interested to see what happens to this league in the future. Might be a SLO-pitch softball league with some of the stats. This guy pitches for the Trinidad Triggers who at this point are 12-51. I mean just awful...

Did some more searching... this is the best pitcher in the PECOS who was actually pretty good. So maybe there was just some bad hombres.

That was last year's Peco's League stats. .313/.401/.470 league wide batting split, 6.46 ERA, a 1.8 WHIP. About 7.5 runs scored per game PER TEAM. 15 runs total per game. It's basically a non affiliated rookie league (probably even less talented than that) being played out in the dessert. It's enough offense to make even the PCL blush. |

Thanks for the info. Nice to see OOTP mirror real life. Not so good for Mr. Cody Strayer and his 1-16 record and 15+ ERA. Probably will need to stay with the cactus and tumbleweeds.

Well, Cody Strayer, a Shawnee State Alum, actually plays in the United Shore Professional Baseball League (where a few of my buds actually play too), so I guess they were close.

Cody Strayer signed with Trinidad this season (at least according to their roster for the 2017 season). In my current game, he actually did a little better than in your game, he was 5-7 with a 6.10 ERA and ended up signing with Lincoln in the American Association for the 2018 season. But yeah, during beta testing, I was concerned about the high batting averages and ERAs in the PECOS League, but it is an incredibly hitter friendly league.

There was a great documentary series featuring this league a few years ago, "The Pecos League" that follows the Trinidad Triggers through one season. It was a Fox Sports documentary, and really really good. I recommend it if you can find it (Amazon streaming has it I believe).
They make like $50 a week, and room with families in the community, and on road trips had to stay at places like converted homeless shelters. The manager was a graduate of Harvard Law school and a playwright, and the team had a public access weekly talk show filmed from the basement of the local funeral home. It was a fantastic look to a small time league and players with big time dreams. I would highly recommend checking it out. Last edited by norva13x; 04-27-2017 at 07:33 PM. |

Update: In 2018 to prove to the world that mr strayer is really not as bad as his Pecos stat line he receives a minor league contract with the Mets to prove his worth in the Gulf Coast League.

I had one young guy, in the pecos league hitting for a well above .500 average, was the mvp this season. Later he got a contract in the Korean minor league. Gotta check on him when I get home.
I find checking out those independent league rosters very interesting, many former all stars and well known mlb players sign there in my saves. Sent from my GEM-702L using Tapatalk |

pointless post and not the correct stats or representation of the league.
here is a link to Cody Strayer's stats in the pecos: http://www.pecosleague.com/pecosleag...page=39&id=573 complete opposite of what you are saying....4-3 with a 3.57 era... it was good enough to get him a promotion to the american association where he posted a 4.96 era in 16 innings https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...d=straye000cod do your research before you go bashing other people on the internet and get the proper stats. not sure where those stats came from. they are not even close to being correct. |
