Popularity
I've never seen this asked before so I'm curious if anyone has the answer:
Example: If your team is based out of Chicago and you have a guy with a hometown of Chicago or nearby, will he get a boost in local popularity for being the "hometown kid?" |

Interesting question. Not sure if I have noticed this with local guys or regional from my area. I would love to hear others inputs too

My general anecdotal impression is that it doesn't matter. It should, though.

My reason for asking is, I am a team based out of Hartford and am picking near the top of the draft. There are two kids I like but one of them went to Hartford College(University?) and is from Middletown, CT, about 15 miles outside of Hartford.
If the hometown kid would be a local popular player(we could really use the popularity boost) I'll draft him no question. If not, my decision remains pretty tough. At any rate, if this isn't the case, this is something that should absolutely be looked into. I believe we already have players who will give a hometown discount. Having a hometown player on your team should make that player incredibly popular at the local level. Think Neil Walker during his time with the Pirates. |

It seems to be a combination of personality, perception and accomplishment. A local player perceived to be selfish will not be as popular as another non-local who is "civic minded". The personality descriptions give a clue.
Players who win awards are significantly popular. I sense team performance is also included

In my fictional league the A's have a new star pitcher who is very popular and his description even includes the language that he "has a huge local fan base"
Yup, he's from Oakland. |
