Reserves Rosters or One Minor League?

I have been playing OOTP for nearly 13 years and always played with Minor Leagues. However, in setting up a new fictional league and thinking about this a lot, I realize I have no real interest in the minor leagues. In some ways for me, it's extra "work" that I'm not too interested in. In fact, just to make thing easier, I went down to two minor leagues (AAA and Double A)

So, I'm seriously considering just using Reserve Rosters. I've also considered using just one minor league.

First question - does anyone use and have thoughts on using just Reserve Rosters?

Second question - will the game work okay if instead I used just one minor league, and which one should I use then?

My concern with one minor league is that players will not get playing time and not develop, whereas in a Reserve system my understanding is they develop automatically.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

Thank you!

I think the common consensus is that using three levels of minors is optimal. AAA, AA, A. I have never used just one minor league before, for the same reasons you have mentioned. I use reserve rosters to keep the file size down, which makes the game run like a top. I have not had any serious issues with it yet, the AI seems to do a pretty good job of keeping the reserve rosters stocked.

My opinion cuz I don't like lots of minors either

Reserves rosters have a few problems. First is you need high limit 40+ or unlimited to not have ai release guys. But then all are classified as on the same team and you run out of jersey numbers fast. The players develop fine except in player position. If the come in w a 140 rating at third base they get no further experience which is not good w young players.

My suggestion.
If you have rookies come in at 20+ years old 1 minor league is fine. Make it aa and all players get decent time. If you want younger drafts go 2 minors AA and A. Players develop fine and w only 2 ml they easily fit on your main transaction screen.

In my EBL league i used just one minor league for several seasons since the majority of my players are custom i did not want some of the lesser players to be stuck in low minors. I had no issues. i now only use AAA & AA, i will add A in 7 years.

I use both.

I have one Major League and one Triple A (non-affiliated) League and both have reserve rosters. I manually move players from League to League.

I once did use only one minor league, AAA and the issue I had was that some of my players with very good potential were not getting any playing time since the roster had so many players.

I use a reserve roster on historical play so that the AI runs at peak efficiency, but I set it at bare minimum 15 per team. This way there's plenty of free agents available if a team gets in trouble (no financials), although it does tend to be a lengthy list of ineffective relievers.

In historical leagues, I always use a reserve roster (25-man limit). I really enjoy playing this way. I don't see why it wouldn't work for fictional.

You may not always agree with the AI choices for released players though. If you see a player released that you think is too good to be available, just ignore him and let another AI team grab him.
