3 Major Leagues or No Inter-Division Play

Hi all!

I have played every version of OOTP since 6.5 and now I'm on OOTP 14. I am about to play a historical league beginning in 1947. I will be using the real historical transactions.

Here is the problem: I want the original 16 teams to maintain their 8-team, 154 game schedules right up through 2012. This means that all the expansion teams need to have a separate sub-league and schedule.

I have read that OOTP cannot support a 3rd major league. Nevertheless, I tried creating a 3rd league for the expansion teams but OOTP kept crashing a year or two into play.

My next idea is to a set-up a league with 2 sub-leagues (the Originals and the Expansions). Each sub-league will have 2 divisions that do NOT have inter-divisional play.

I have reviewed the schedules that have been posted but none of them seem to meet my unique criteria. I am not tech-savvy, so I would appreciate it if someone could walk me through a way to develop my "dream" schedule that I can repeatedly use.

Thanks,

Charles

So... you want a schedule where

1st subleague 8/8 teams, 154 games, no inter divisional.

2nd subleague 7/7 teams, 162 games (?), no inter divisional.

So how many games in the separate sub league?

154 game schedule in both sub-leagues. One sub-league would have 16 teams, the other would have 14. Both sub-leagues would both have 2 divisions. To be honest, I don't care what the 14-team sub-league's schedule looks like, as long as it is 154 games long.

Charles

Interdivision or not in the 14-team league? If it's interdivision, how much interleague, and would the setup be 8/6 or 7/7?

Or do you not have any preference?

I might be able to dig up a couple of schedules for you, though maybe not tonight.

The divisions should be 8/8 and 7/7. The 8/8 sub-league should definitely have no inter-division play while the 7/7 sub-league probably should (though if it doesn't, that is OK, too).

No inter-league play at all, at least until the World Series.

Thanks for your help!

OK, I found a perfect schedule for your 16 team league, and a completely balanced schedule for your 14 team league, meaning that each team plays an equal amount against all 13 teams. I just have to slightly edit them and mash em together, which I can probably get to tonight.

If you want to make a single 16-team sub-league act like two separate 8-team leagues, then all you need to do is take a MLB schedule from 1903-1959 and change the header. For instance, the header for the 1959 MLB schedule file reads:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

<SCHEDULE type="ILN_BGY_G154_SL1_D1_T8_SL2_D1_T8_C_" inter_league="0" balanced_games="1" games_per_team="154" start_month="4" start_day="9" start_day_of_week="5" allstar_game_day="90">

Change that to:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>

<SCHEDULE type="ILN_BGY_G154_SL1_D1_T8_D2_T8_C_" inter_league="0" balanced_games="1" games_per_team="154" start_month="4" start_day="9" start_day_of_week="5" allstar_game_day="90">

I'm not sure how OOTP handles the All-Star Game if there's only one league - you may have to scrap that. And be aware that, if you have the game treat the two leagues as separate divisions of the same sub-league, your year-end awards will be screwed up (you'll only have one winner, drawn from both leagues, for each award).

I really appreciate all the help.

I presume the schedules are in notepad format, is that correct?

I presume that I save them in the schedule folder, yes?

Now, how to I ensure that each year OOTP grabs the schedule I want to use?

Thank you again,

Charles

XML. You can open them in notepad though.

Yes, but you can also manually select a file. In the schedule importer, click import, and navigate to your file.

The loaded schedule should never change, OOTP will just reshuffle the teams each year.

Thank you again,

Charles

Answers above. I should have the schedule for you in about an hour when my mom stops hogging the computer.

This should work.

To recap:
16-team subleague
2 divisions, 8 teams, no inter division play, 154 games

14-team subleague
2 divisions, 7 teams, balanced schedule, 154 games

All-Star game at day 100.

Because of fewer total games, the 14-team subleague ends play 7 days later than the 16-team sub league, and starts 2 days later (to line up the all-star break).

I take no credit for creating schedule, I just minorly edited 2 of gmo's wonderful schedules so they worked well when put together.

Wow! Thank you so much. It looks amazing!

While the "original sub-league" will always have 2 divisions (8/8), the number of teams in the "expansion sub-league" will change. So I opened what you sent me and quickly realized I have no idea how to edit it.

At first it has one division with 4 teams, then 8 teams then 10 teams.

After this, it has two divisions with 12 teams (6/6) and finally 14 teams (7/7).

I am wondering if you can tell me how I can take the schedule you sent then make four new versions, so the expansion sub-league's will always have the right number of teams (not 14 teams every season).

I should have told you all this before but thought I could make the changes, but I am afraid that I can't figure it out.

Thank you very much,

Charles

3 Major Leagues or No Inter-Division Play

OK... You would basically need a completely new schedule for each pair of teams. Hopefully there are 154 game schedules for each combination that I can make work for you.

EDIT: I found 154's for the 8, 10, and 12 team setups, but not the 4 and the 6. I don't have much experience creating schedules from scratch (only 1 small one), so they will just be the generic, OOTP-created schedules. Sorry about that.

I will get to these in the next couple of days.
