Some logo requst and idea fishing . . .

Request Part:

I use cephasjames's logos 99% of the time. I like that they can double well as cap and team logo. But I have a couple nicknames I'm either not finding an appropriate logo or have already used the best match in his collection:

West Baden Sprudels. Sprudel was a turn of the 19th/20th century bottled resort mineral water with a elf mascot. I tried to locate a scan of this elf to no avail. I see the logo along the lines of the Classic St. Louis "Brownie" or the Impish St. Louis Billikin logo.

Bower's ABCs and Jewell's ABCs. I'm using Negro League team names at this point in my league, and there was alot of copycat nicknames. I already have the justafans red/white ABCs logo, but can't find any other color version of this logo.

For all three logos, color does not matter too much--as long as neither ABC logo is red/white. I would prefer no words on the logo (save the ABC obviously). As I would like to use these as cap logos, I would prefer the 'background' of the logo to not just be white, but 'clear' (if that makes sense).

Thank you in advance for your efforts.

Idea fishing part:

At a not too distant point in my universe's evolution, I'm going to have scores of clubs just designated as [City/neighborhood] Athletic Club/AC or Athletic Association/AA. Rather than flooding the forum with dozens of similar sounding request, how would you approach these non-nickname nicknames from a logo standpoint?

Again, thank you for your input and thoughts.

For your AC or AA clubs, it might be easiest to use letter hat logos. As an example, Tumwater Valley Athletic Club could have a team logo involving a T and V. These can be done relatively easily within photoshop or GIMP. I usually decide on three team colors, make the letters one, put two layers of color (stroke) around the border of the letter, then save it as my hat logo.

Love this idea, very 'simple' yet super effective for what I want to do.

Dumb Questions Time:

I don't think I have Photoshop or know what GIMP is--but I do have program called Picasa 3, would I be able to the same thing with that program?

I've never looked for them, but have some of the logo creators here developed, for lack of a better term, "Letter collections" for just this type of thing?

This was done using WordArt under the Insert tab in Excel. I then used GIMP to add the black stoke, resize and save the file in .pdf file format.

Here is the link to download GIMP - LINK

Coming from someone as computerly challenged as I am, this may sound strange, but I don't have Excel or mircosoft word. I have LibreOffice 3.4 which is, I think the term is, open source. (geek tech friends of ours built this thing)

So, is WordArt just in Excel, or is it something (similar if not the same) that would be in my spreadsheet program, or would I be better looking for a different open source program?

Thank you for your time and patience with my learning curve.

FYI,if you are using LibreOffice the WordArt equivalent is View--Toolbars--Fontwork.

Now after getting a 'logo' created in Fontwork, how do I get it to GIMP? None of the options given to save the 'logo' in LibreOffice seem to be readable by GIMP.

I use the keyboard shortcut "ctrl+c" to copy the logo to the clipboard. Then in GIMP, go to the "Edit" dropdown, highlight "Paste as" and choose "New Image." That should do the trick.

Let me know if you need anything else.

I have the basic 'logo' created, pasted into GIMP, but I'm only given the option to save as an .XCF file. Is there another step to convert to a .PNG so the game can read it?

Bonus Question: GIMP is where I can make the background of an image 'clear', correct?

When you type a file name into the Name box, just type".png" at the end and GIMP will automatically save it in that format.

Yes, GIMP can be used to make the background transparent. It should already be when you paste as a new image from Fontwork. Let me know if it isn't and I'll post some steps to make it so.
