Whose version of WAR does OOTP use?

Just wondering.

I haven't even bought v.12 and haven't gotten a sneak peek anywhere, but I'd bet money it's simply VORP + ZR.

Checked about 20 guys against that formula and it looks like you're right about position players. Anyone have any idea what they're doing with pitchers? I checked the historical numbers from the MLB quickstart and they don't match up with Baseball Prospectus, FanGraphs, or Baseball-Reference.

My guess is that you start with ERA or Runs Allowed/9, adjust for home park, find the difference between that rate and the replacement level rate, then multiply by innings pitched. I believe Fangraphs uses this method with FIP as the base stat rather than ERA or RA/9.

Pitchers WAR is based on FIP.

Pitchers: FIP based, but I'm not sure why the numbers are different than those on fangraphs if that's true.

Hitters: VORP with OOTP generated run values for defense added in.

If that's true then that's just awesome. I was just assuming it was based on ERA like VORP was in 11 (still is in 12?). No wonder I had a 5.55 ERA pitcher had a WAR over 1.0 the other day.

Divided by 10. That's what I assumed it would be going in, but sometimes I'm seeing results that don't seem to jive entirely with that. I haven't tested anything to say it's buggy or wrong though.

Yes, that's what I meant to say. Thanks for the correction.

OK, but according to the manual, the game uses the John Dewan version of ZR, which (i think, correct me if i'm wrong), is in terms of raw plays made, not runs saved. So if half the formula is on a runs scale and the other half isn't, doesn't that throw WAR completely out of whack?

ZR is reported in game as runs saved, not percentage of plays made....
