I generally assume the following about the various morale categories:

1. In some situations the impact is obvious (e.g., high greed means high salary demands).

2. In most situations, the impact isn't easily detected or measured. I assume, however, that Markus has attempted to model the sort of impact one would suspect happens IRL. So, in the case you are raising, I assume the answer is yes.

3. The impact in all cases is small, because I think that Markus tends to be cautious (correctly so) about giving a lot of weight to things like this which are difficult to model.

FWIW

I'm not exactly sure but I can give you one example from a prospect that I have. He was in AA and was preforming well but was unhappy because he felt he should have been playing in the Majors, he was a 5 star potential guy, but wasn't ready so I moved him to AAA where he really struggled batting around .215 or something. He was struggling to hit AAA pitching and he still thought he belonged in the Big leagues. I had a rash of injuries so in September I called the cry baby up and he actually hit better in the Majors than he did in AAA.

He stayed on the active roster through the entire off-season and spring training and his emotional state has stabilized enough so that I was able to send him back to AAA without the histrionics. I'll let you know how he does this time around in AAA.

I kinda hope that isn't whats going to happen to Brett Lawrie who while being a top prospect reportedly a serious attitude problem isn't ready for the show but might think he is...

I think Steve P. is being cautious in understating the effect of morale (happiness/unhappiness) on player performance. In my opinion, happiness does not tend to add to performance to the degree that unhappiness degrades it.

The online manual lists player performance first in its list of morale effects:

What does Morale Affect?

Morale can affect a number of things in the game, including:
  • Player performance
  • Likelihood of the player asking for or accepting a contract extension
  • Likelihood of the player re-signing with your team in free agency
  • Likelihood of the player requesting or demanding a trade
  • Likelihood that the player will demand a change in his role on the team
Off-topic a bit: I am amazed at what I can learn just by accident in this game. For example, while researching the above, I ran across this on the same page of the manual; we were just discussing this topic in another thread and I did not know that a player's morale could be affected by team transactions involving other players, not just the player himself:

Team Transactions - How the player feels about the transactions the team has made, most notably signings, released players, and trades. Signing high profile players can boost morale, as can making a good trade. Treating players poorly, such as cutting them in the middle of a contract, can hurt morale. Player popularity also has a big effect here. Things aren't always black and white, though. If you sign a high-profile second baseman, the other second basemen on your team might not be too happy about their own future prospects. Team Transaction morale is also affected by transactions affecting the current player. For example, if you promote or demote a player, sign or release a player, or change a player's trade status or shop them, this affects their Team Transactions morale.
