trouble getting game to start

I am having a problem where the game won't start up and it says this:

"OOTP Baseball 9 has stopped working

A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Does anyone else ever have this problem? Does anyone have a suggestion? I have already completely deleted the game, restarted my laptop, and redownloaded version 9.2.2 and reinstalled. I can't even access the game. The same message was said to me about 2 weeks ago, and it turned out my harddrive was messed up. But I have replaced my harddrive with a new one. Please help!

not the most computer savvy guy, but I think you mean this. I have a dell inspiron 1525 laptop with Windows Vista HP. I don't know too much else, except that it has a good amount of memory. My harddrive shouldn't be the problem, as I just had it replaced--the one that came with my laptop didn't work after 6 weeks of owning it. The game doesn't even start up and then have a problem loading. I hope I'm making some sense.

I have that exact same computer, the 1525. All versions from 9.1.6 through 9.2.2 have worked fine on my computer. One thing you might check is to make sure you are running it as the administor (sp). Also, I have to turn off my virus check software while playing the game. Works alot better. (I;m not sure if your virus software was on when you installed it, if it was, uninstall and install it with the virus software turned off.)

Thank you very much for the suggestion. I am just not sure how to turn the virus software off.

I hear ya. I am using McAfee and it took me forever to find an easy way to disable it. I'm not sure what software you are using, but you can try to disable it under task manager under services if you can't find another way.

Nothing I've tried has worked, even when looking through the FAQ. I'm thinking this is a problem with Windows Vista, don't believe it's anything with the game. I can find on a google search people with a similar problem, but no solution. No fun.

I had the exactly the same problem yesterday after I installed the new patch. What I had to do was uninstall my old version of OOTP 9 (Save games etc. won't be deleted) and install OOTP with the new patch into a different directory.

I didn't have to use a licence and I could easily transfer my saved games to the new folder and now the game works again.

Since I have a Fujitsu Siemens notebook I don't think it has anything to do with the notebooks itself.

Sorry I'm not the best with computers. Could you explain what you mean by putting it into a different directory? Do you mean, for example, not putting it under "documents", but rather something else? I appreciate everyone's help.

If the old version was in OOTP 9 you have to put it in OOTP (without the 9). It has to be a different directory than the previous version.

I had the same problem when I did the partial install. I did the full install and now it works just fine.

Would you mind sharing that way to disable McAfee? I had pretty much given up on getting it shut off.
