Question about trades

Why does a trade offer sometimes say it is expired when the time limit hasn't expired. Some times as soon as I open an offer, it has expired

I believe that happens when one or more of the players involved in the trade is no longer available. I have seen it where the same day I got an expired trade offer there was an announcement that one of the players being offered was traded to another team. It might also happen if one of the players gets injured, but I am not sure about that one.
