Pinch hitting with a pitcher

What happens when you do this in 2006?

Um, you get a lousy pinch hitter at the plate.

If I understand your question, they will hit just like any other player with the same contact rating. Take a look at hitter ratings. In some cases, there are pitchers who hit better than some of the scrub batters on a roster.

They're not penalized just because they are a pitcher. It will be based on the rating, just like any other player.

And they go into the game as a "PH". They don't have to throw a pitch.

If anything, they're gonna play the position of the person you subbed them in for.

Interesting you should ask this. I have an average to poor pitcher on one of my R level teams who can't play another position but has some of the best offensive ratings on the team. Much to my dismay, the game's depth charts do not allow me to insert him into a bullpen role and have him DH a few times a week. Maybe this calls for the Suggestions Board!

My Nippon Ham Fighters have three starting pitchers with better batting ratings than two of my starting position players.

Some pitchers were actually used as pinch-hitters in real life - Bob Gibson and Earl Wilson to name a few.

FF obviously doens't know much about baseball or its history...

Bah! Not only do no other well-hitting pitchers hold a candle to the Babe, virtually no other hitters do either. I have a feeling that I'm inviting a world of hurt by my latter statement, but other than Gehrig and Williams it's pretty much true (Ty Cobb be durned!).

And saying that the number of superb-hitting pitchers is countless is more than hyperbole, it's not even worth the zeros and ones that make it up. There's a significant reason that one of the greatest left-handed pitchers of all-time was converted to an outfielder. . . .

In response to my own statement, Earl Wilson should have excelled as a hitter - he was originally a catcher.
