Great article about the whole Arkansas parents debacle.

Just read this and couldn't agree more with it and thought I'd share.

Despite leading Arkansas to a 10-3 record, Houston Nutt has had to deal with some drama.

And I believe Houston Nutt is earning every cent of his reported $1.5 million salary. The hard way.

I also understand why Nutt's name has come up in connection with a couple of other jobs. You get the impression he's anxious to flee Fayetteville, despite having Heisman Trophy runnerup Darren McFadden and a whole lot of other talent from a 10-3 team returning in 2007.

Why? Perhaps because the psych ward that is Arkansas football is enough to drive a coach Nutts.

Ah yes, blame Arkansas' head coach for the fact that the naive parents didn't do their research. Any knowledgable football fan knows the Razorbacks had two superstar Sophomore running backs, and that Arkansas would not be a pass first school until they are gone. What they are saying sounds hilarious:

"We need to stop doing what works, just so our son can throw the ball and make him look good for the NFL."

If Mustain's family knew what they were doing, they would have actively recruited hiim to a passing school.

Ugh I couldn't agree more MH....

I live in NW Arkansas and have heard nothing but complaints from a majority of "fans" this year about Houston Nutt on the local call-in shows. I'm not his biggest fan, but you can't fault a team for running 65-70% of the time when you have Darren McFadden and Felix Jones in the backfield.

The bigger problem at the U of A is Frank Broyles at this stage of his career - Houston hasn't had control of this offense since early 2000's - Broyles is the puppet master; Houston is just the puppet. Broyles has brought many great things to Fayetteville, but at 81 his beter days are long past. Some may or may not know that all of the Razorback sports programs have elite-level facilities thanks in large part to Broyles: (including ~ 77,000 seat football stadium, ~ 20,000 seat basketball arena that rivals any NBA area 10 years or older, ~ 10,000 seat baseball stadium considered one of the top 5 in all college baseball, the best indoor and outdoor track complexes in the nation.)

To think Damian Williams would leave after being the #2 receiver most of the year, 2nd in catches as a FRESHMAN on a 10 win team is mind-boggling....

CBL, you point out why he wants to transfer. He was only #2 on the team. He's always been #1 and there is no reason for him not to be #1, come on dont you know that all great teams are built around a core of freshman at the skill positions because they were always great together

These boys (and their parents) from Springdale High genuinely thought that the whole football direction of Arkansas was going to change to accomodate them.

I agree with the above statement that Mustain's parents should have steered him to a passing team moreso than wanting him to stay 'in state' and be the savior of a Razorback team that really doesnt need saving.

It was a decent article, and I agree with most of it. I don't like how he brushes off dishonest recruiting tactics so easily, though. If Nutt lied to these boys, he's getting exactly what he earned, and I don't blame any of these kids for being upset. Lying isn't the name of the game in recruiting. A lot of coaches do it, but not all. Pat Forde cites Nutt and Ford about the nasty side of recruiting. Guess what those two have in common?

Compare those guys to Kirk Ferentz and Mack Brown. It's not an "everybody is doing it" thing at all.
