Big time choke

Finishing my season the fore mentioned Richmond team had one of the biggest chokes I've seen in recent history. With 5 games left Richmond held a 4 game lead in the Wild Card race. Richmond went on a 5 game losing streak while San Jose went on a 5 game winning streak to knock Richmond out of contention.

I was pulling a little bit for Richmond, a team that before this season finished in last 6 years in a row.

Hard to say they choked when they went 4-6, but I once had a team in my league lose a 5.5 game lead with 10 to play because their pursuer won its last 10 games to close the season and take the division by 1 game.

The 2 biggest pennant leads lost in MLB ever were, (thu 1995) the 1978 Red Sox's 14 1/2-game lead on July 19, (they lost the division on a 1 game playoff to the Yanks) followed by the 1951 Dodgers' 13 1/2-game lead Aug. 11.

Other notable "chokes"
The 1993 San Francisco Giants, who lost a 10-game lead in mid-July to the Atlanta Braves.
The 1942 Brooklyn Dodgers, who went 104-50 under Leo Durocher, but blew a 10-game lead to the St. Louis Cardinals, who won 43 of their final 51.
The 1964 Philadelphia Phillies, who lost a 6 1/2-game lead to St. Louis with 12 remaining.
White Sox almost blew a double digit lead last year but hung on.

Blowing a 4 game lead with 5 to go would be painful, seeing that magic number on 1 for 5 straight days.

Well I was listing regular season division chokes, the '04 Yanks actually won the division. The ALCS choke to Boston certainly was unprecedented, couple teams were up 3-1 then lost, Angels come to mind, but 3-0, never happened until then.

Who went 4-6? And you don't think having a 4 game lead with 5 games left to play is considered a choke? All they had to do was go 2-3 in the last 5 and they would have clinched, any time you can play sub .500 ball and clinch and don't come through I think it qualifies as a choke

Everything I said was referring to my scenario. Yours was surely a choke.

You forgot the 1987 Blue Jays who blew a 3.5 game lead with 7 games to go. I am still trying to forget that one!
