GForce/Rolen Project: Intangible Ratings...Your Input Is Wanted

Hey guys,

As we come down the home stretch here (finally) we get to some ratings that there is really no way to rate completely accurately without observing guys a lot. They are the ratings that you need to see a guy consistently in most cases to really get a feel for. I'm talking about things like loyalty, clutch rating, type of hitter (pull, spray, normal), those kind of things. These ratings are not imperative, but if I can get feedback on them I will add them. Also, any guys you think should be rated durable or prone, ratings on "play for a winner" (which measures if a guy plays hard all the time and such). Basically, anything you can think of for those kind of ratings, I'd love to hear it. Most guys in a lot of these categories will be normal, and I calculated a randomness factor in assigning these to guys, but I'll incorporate any feedback on these ratings since guys who have observed these players likely have some input.
Any questions, let me know.

Thanks!

GH

You could delegate off the intangible ratings to 28 fans of the ML clubs who watch them a lot... if you want, I'd do the Red Sox for you.

Understood

Specs,

I thought about that, but I'd rather not limit it to one guy. Basically, everyone can offer input on anybody they want. If you want to do the Red Sox, great. But if there are other Sox fans I don't want to tell them not to offer input. Whatever you can offer is appreciated.

For starters Griffey should be injury prone....even though I plan to start my career with the Reds.

There are some people that you have to give clutch ratings to. Jeter, Rivera, and Schilling have to be great and Bonds and Bagwell should suffer.

a huge can of worms.

I'd randomize it.

IMO we are best off abandoning that sinking ship that is Off Topic to the rats infesting it and just starting a whole new Baseball Forum from scratch.

Hheheheheh!!

Yeah Dodge,

I was thinking that but I figured I would let guys throw their opinions out there. When in doubt I'll probably randomize it anyway. Should make for a fun thread to read though

%'s

What percentages are those? I already did generic percentages and guys are rated according to those. I was looking for specifics from people.

I personally would rather see all intangibles set the same before they were random, if Cal Ripken were still playing this roster set could have him as Injury Prone, Not Loyal, and Not a Leader.

The only thing I would worry about would be whether or not they are injury prone.

If you have their Games played in a spread sheet that should be a good enough indicator to go buy.

As for leadership and loyalty I think random is good way to go there.

Sweeney for KC is about the only loyalty standout I've seen. He took less money to return to a KC team which well, he needs to be commended for. I guess players who have spent their entire career with one team should also qualify here as well.

Hitting type...another one that should probably just be randomized. Of course you have your Barry Bonds shift where the 3B plays behind the bag at 2nd so he would qualify as a pull hitter, and there are several others but I'm not sure if it warrants holding up the rosters to research it over...maybe a nice addition in v2.0?

Well, I got a couple(Most Are WhiteSox) Sandy Alomar Jr. prone to injury. Frank Thomas not clutch and a pull hitter. Carlos Lee pull-hitter. Kenny Lofton clutch. Rocky Biddle clutch. Ray Durham inconsistent. Jose Valentin is a little leader. I'll keep on adding while I think but for now...

Does hitting type even effect games?

I assumed it mattered for whether guys pull the ball or not so Mo Vaughn doesn't hit balls to left all the time.

The Major League Scouting Notebook: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/boo...sbn=188406499X
Pitch types, some intangibles, hit charts, clutch #'s, etc.
They also make a Minor League Scouting Notebook but that does contain less.

wow

great stuff, Specs. Thanks for the info!

The major league scouting book is the one book I didn't get this year. Rating the minor leaguers is much harder, so that's where my money went. Great book though...I have an old one sitting around somewhere.

These ratings are very biased from person to person. I would think the best way is to leave them random and then let people change them as they need to. I do that now using Lahmans 4.5 Database.

The only thing I would recommend is that anyone with a Team Captian title is given holds team together, ie John Franco.
