Is there any reason at all to extend a young player's contract that doesn't qualify for free agency yet? Would this help down the road with future negotiations, or would this just be wasting money? Similarly, some young players have threatened to walk on me at the end of the season (In the contract extension screen) even though I know they are not free agents yet. This doesn't seem to make sense to me.

it's a waste of money - if anything, a player with a negotiated (read: higher) contract will just demand that much more.
as for the player demanding more, even though he's not eligible? that bit me pretty hard before I realized what was up. gave some developing AAA pitcher 1,000,000 just because I didn't want to let him out on the market. little did I know, he had like 3 years before I had to do anything.

will you be able to sign players to realistic extensions before their walk year in ootp4?
