Game not opening - 'OOTP found crashed_on_startup flag is set' - MacBook

Hi there,

Yesterday I attempted to add a new 'Quicksave' into my OOTP 19 game (which I can't figure out how to do on a Mac but that's a separate issue). I messed up somehow and crashed the game.

I now keep getting the "OOTP found crashed_on_startup flag is set" error (see https://imgur.com/2DDntLG) and the game won't open anymore. I uninstalled and reinstalled the game a couple of times and still getting the same error.

I did the 'verify integrity of game files' thing with no problems but still same issue.

What can I do to fix this? This is on a 2017 MacBook Pro.

I'm 'bumping' this if that's okay. I've since tried uninstalling and re-installing Steam itself but it doesn't fix the problem and I'm re-installed OOTP a dozen times. I've probably put 1000 hours into OOTP over the years and it feels weird to not have it running.

Sure, that's no problem glad you did bump it since I'd missed it the first time around

I'm just going on instinct here but in trying to figure out what could possibly have gone wrong enough to cause a repeated crash when you were trying to install a quickstart I'm wondering if the problem couldn't have to do with the game's data path.

Can you do a search in your finder for an OOTP file called paths.cfg? When you find that, delete it. Then try starting the game again. If it works now, great.

If not, we'll want to get rid of the crash error (since it's completely generic) so that we can see if there's another error message.

This time search for a file called app.cfg. Open that in a text editor. and search for the line:

crashed_on_startup
1

Change the 1 to a 0 and then save the file, close and restart OOTP. Let me know what error message you get then, if any.
