Division and Non-Division Play

Is it possible to create a schedule whereby divisional teams play each other more times than they would non-divisional teams and the integrity of the schedule remain the same for the following seasons?

For example, I am trying to setup a one league fictional game with two 4 team divisions within the league and a 72 game season. If it is possible I want the teams within a division to play each other 12 times and non-divisional play to be 4 times with each team.

I know how to create this schedule manually, however, I am concerned about how it carries over to the next year. Will the schedule stay consistent within the perspective divisions or will I have to manually change it each year?

Have I completely confused everybody ... I'm a bit confused myself now

You can't specify those sorts of exact parameters for the in-game schedule generator, but you can create a schedule by hand that will reflect that, or any other parameter you are interested in.

The game uses the same schedule but swaps teams around within it to create different matchups each season.

For example, if your schedule file opened with a single Sunday game between Atlanta and Florida from the East Division, the next season would have that single opening game, only the opponents might be Atlanta and Philadelphia, or New York and Washington, and so on. The particular opponents for a given matchup change each year as the teams are swapped around by the game. I'm not sure what the swapping criteria is, but it does mean each year you'll get different matchups from the same schedule file.

If you wanted to specify exactly how the schedule changes each year, say because you want to rotate interleague games on a regular basis or something similar, then what you'd do is create a series of schedule files. Then by naming them in an appropriate way, the game will cycle between the schedules in that set.
