Re-import names/ethnicity/world database not working

In essence, the name files and world_default.xml that are loaded during the creation of any historical, fictional, or real world game are irreplaceable via the re-import feature under database tools.

This is especially frustrating during historical simulations, where having the ability to replace name files in particular with those that are era specific is crucial for immersion.

PLEASE at least consider addressing this. Historical simulations are nigh unplayable without the ability to at least update name files periodically. It's great that we finally have the ability to add as many names and ethnicities to the game as we want. However, any potential benefits of this addition are severely offset without also having the ability to regularly and reliably update the files associated with them.

We probably should've had this conversation here, simply for the sake of exposure. Hopefully, someone in the know is at least aware of this issue.

I'm wondering if there's an update on this. I didn't realize the issue until I struggled and failed to successfully import a newly modified database today.

Are you on the latest patch? I believe it should be fixed there.

I believe so -- I'm on 19.5, Build 49. I think that's the latest one I saw.

That is the latest build.

From what I can see in our tracking system it is indeed supposed to be fixed. Doesn't mean it is though, the fix may not've taken correctly.

Andreas did add this note though.

"Edit the ETHNICITIES list in the world_default.XML file. Do not use another ethnicities file."

So it may be that if you're using another file that's why things aren't working for you.

So it may be that if you're using another file that's why things aren't working for you.

I reimported the world database from XML file and the name & ethnicity database to double-check, but it didn't change.

I def. added the ethnicities in the world_default.xml file. The ones I added after the league was created are missing from the game. For example, I added 'Hungarian' to the xml file and assigned it to the country Hungary.

After the imports, the Ethnicity for the nation Hungary in the game is blank. I have to choose something else from the dropdown box.

While I can't comment on the ethnicity and other world files (as I haven't made any changes to them), I can at least attest to the fact that re-importing name files (specifically the first_names file) since the latest patch re-import's just fine in a New Standard League...

I always choose New Standard when creating a league and had issues w/ Hispanic first name frequencies that led to waaay too many Juan's/Jose's being generated (Seriously, you guys should consider dialing back those frequencies. Three names w/ a frequency of 10,000/4,000/6,000 when the vast majority of all names are set to 1 is a bit much). So I changed all first name Hispanic frequencies to 1 and re-imported w/o fail.

When the patch was released on April 25th, the update reset my changes back to default in Documents. So I had to go back and change the first_name frequencies and re-import them again... but I still didn't run into such issues.

I've been OK with the name frequencies and changes too -- it's just the new ethnicities that aren't coming in for me.
