Never got to see him play, but he went into the HoF the year my Blue Jays were taking their awkward baby steps. What a player, and from reading up on him, what a man. RIP Mr. Cub. There must be a doubleheader scheduled for tomorrow in heaven. Heck, he can play more than two if he wants to now.

RIP EB - never got to see you play, just highlights, but you touched the game in so many ways.

Thanks for the memories, god bless.

RIP Ernie. May your next stop be an endless string of perfect sunny days and doubleheaders.

To be the face of a franchise for decades after you've retired is a true mark of greatness on and off the field. And to be that face for one of the most recognizable and known sports teams throughout the world says even more!

We've been truly blessed in Chicago with great sports figures. We may not win as many games or titles as other cities, but we always have guys like Ernie who stand out for a lot more than just their talent.

Many thanks to Mr Cub for being a great Chicago icon, great role model and great man!

Like all players that had long been enshrined in the Hall of Fame by the time I could be bothered to be born, I have never seen him play, or even footage of it, and I haven't been around baseball for more than five years at all. I know about the numbers, but I also know something else:

I have yet to find anybody, or any place, where anything negative would have been said or written about Ernie Banks.

May he rest in peace where he is now, and play two from time to time.

He was legend to me since i was born too late to see the man play...but...if the Chicago Cubs were to put a face on their logo, it would have to be Ernie Banks...

one of the greats and one of the pioneers of African-American relations in MLB...may his spirit rest and be at peace

"Ernie never complained about his team's bad luck or bad talent, never stopped playing the game with joy, never stopped giving his all, never lost his proud demeanor, and never acted like anything but a winner. He was a symbol of the Cub fan's undiminishing resilience. If he could be happy to come to the park each afternoon, then so could we."

RIP Ernie. Like Stan Musial and the man who signed him, Buck O'Neil, you'd have to search a long time to find a bad word said about the man. Now he's upstairs picking his Departed Cubs nine to go against Stan's Cardinal nine in a celestial version of God's Favorite Baseball Rivalry. It will, of course, be a doubleheader.
