Question Historical pitching ratings?

Hi everyone! I started a historical save with the Padres in 1994, and I have a question about the pitching ratings that seem to be weird. Maybe it has been discussed in the past, sorry in advance if this isn't new.

Here's Andy Ashby which is rated 3 stars.

And here's Doug Brocail, rated 2.5 stars.

You will quickly notice that there's a huge difference in their ratings, and Doug Brocail looks like a bad pitcher at the first glance. So why is he evaluated 2.5 stars by the same scout that evaluates Ashby 3 stars?

Brocail has 6 pitches in his repertoire, could this be the reason ?

Any explanation is welcome.

Thanks !

I've always been curious about this too. Finding stuff like this (but in the opposite way) is a great way to improve your team. I've found stuff like this easy to find with SP's, corner outfielders, and 2B especially.

I think it may be due to the stars reflecting some combination of ratings and stats. Change your AI player evaluation to more heavily weight ratings and I'll bet the stars will change. Brocail might have done well last year, and it looks like he did do well two years ago.

So i tried this (I put 100 % ratings evaluation whereas I had something like 40-30-20-10 before) and it worked for OSA evaluation only, but my scout's opinion didn't change. I guess it would do so in the next scouting report?

But you're right, Brocail had 1 WAR in 1993, + 3.3 in AAA in 1992 (are minor league stats even taken into account in AI evaluation?), whereas Ashby had 0.4 WAR in 1993 and -0.3 in 1992.

This added to the fact that 2.5 and 3 stars seems close but this isn't as accurate as a 20-80 evaluation.

Yeah minor league stats are taken into account. Sometimes if I need to sweeten the pot in a trade, the AI will take a bad player that's putting up 3 WAR in A+ ball due to luck or whatever.
