Question on day to day injuries

If my starting RF gets hurt and its a dtd injury for 5 days should I place him on the IL or leave him in?

Also does the AI auto replace him with the player in the depth chart under utility if I leave the injured player in or only when I place on the IL?

This is strictly speaking as a GM not manager. Thanks...

If he can play the manager starts him.
If not his back up will start

Usually it’ll be ok

That's a decision you have to make, same as every injury.

Do I put him on the DL?

Do I sit him for a few games?

Do I let him play and hope it's ok?

Injured players risk further injury if playing while injured. You have to decide if the risk is worth it. Lots to consider. Am I in a pennant race and I need this guy? Am I rebuilding and I don't need him in the lineup every day?

Consider where the injury is - if it's a hamstring and he's your #1 CFer, you might not want him running fast and hard chasing fly balls. That kind of activity could worsen the injury.

Decisions, decision, such is the life of a manager.

The length of the IL is also a factor. For a player with a 5 day injury you may not want to sit him longer if your IL length is 10 days.

I definitely don't think you need to IL him.

For a short DTD injury like that, you could easily take no action and probably be fine. There is a slight chance they make it worse, but that chance is very small. If I am managing day to day I would probably give him a couple of days off within that time span, but that's it. You also want to look at what the injury affects for the player.

Obviously, it also depends on your roster makeup and whether your lineup takes a huge step down when he is out of it. Depending on where the injury is and your league rules you could also put him in the DH slot or something to get at-bats, but further minimize the chance of further injury.

I typically bench DtD injuries, unless I have overriding roster issues. Sometimes later in the season an IL stint is the better choice as it provides extended rest plus valuable playing time for a bench player or deserving minor league player. Sometimes a showcase for a possible trade.

Agree with RchW on benching. Additional reason is performance loss may make him worse than the bench player.
