The AI-controlled Cardinals won 19 pennants in 21 years
Hey gang,
Here's an interesting thing I just had happen while testing a few things out in a historical sim. Recalc off, full minor league DB on, color line off. I don't think I've ever seen quite this crazy a run of success in a league I wasn't doing weird things with.
The Cardinals won the NL pennant 19 times between 1923 and 1943, only losing in '34 and '42. They "only" turned this into eight rings, though, as Boston and Cleveland had strong AL teams. They've won at least 90 games in every year since 1915, and have had a ridiculously strong lineup, stuffed with HoFers. Foxx is the all-time HR king, with 472 and counting, while Gehrig retired with 426. Former Cardinals Hack Wilson and Rogers Hornsby are also in the top ten. (Ruth "only" hit 373 in his career with Boston, but he was a two-way player the whole time, and won 364 games.)
I've included some screenshots below, including the two pitchers who won 450 games each for the Redbirds during this stretch. They had great HoF careers, don't get me wrong, but I'm sure that playing on the greatest dynasty ever assembled helped them get to that many wins.
Oh, and after a terrible 1945 season (90-64, four games back) St. Louis just signed a young fellow named Jackie Robinson to man the second sack for them going forward...
