I haven't yet come across a thread discussing how to build long-term success. There are plenty of threads devoted to rebuilding teams, but how do you stay at the top once you've gotten there? I would define this as reaching the playoffs at least five times within six or seven years.
One of the problems I have encountered is that when you are finally successful, your farm system begins to shrink because you get progressively worse picks in the draft. Without the influx of new talent, how can a team sustain a winning record year after year? How do you decide when it's time to trade away your aging talent for prospects, and is there a way to do so that will create a steady flow of talent from the minors? |

There are several threads on this topic. They reside on the Dynasty Reports forum.

Best I can say is go with your gut. I always build my teams around defense, pitching, and high batting eyes when starting out

Most important thing I've found is knowing when to move on from a player and avoiding bad contracts. Not resigning a guy may hurt you in the short term but a bunch of overpaud veterans will hamstring your team.

I had it on EASY. Even though. 10 playoff appearances. Only 2 titles. I had Bobby Cox syndrome. However, my pitching staff was built thru the draft.
