You certainly have a point, but as I said, the issue is that this will turn people off the game, and will likely affect the sort of press it gets, which - over a few years - could potentially be bad news.

Yikes, but I would think that MH would drop all references to MLB before he would let the suits and ties muck up his game.

No worries. Markus will always keep the game and his control of it first and foremost in his decisions. Notwithstanding the continued varied wants and needs of the community. Continue to have faith in his judgments. I think this was a ship bound to sail at some point along the way. I'm certain he was prepared for it, along with continuing to provide the best quality product possible for all of us.

Indeed. The problem isn't Markus, or even MLB, the problem is 1) how this effects the public impression of OOTP (i/e will it be seen as worse without real team names) and 2) how it also effects FHM (and in the future BTS), because those games don't have the fan base OOTP does and probably couldn't survive a similar thing happening to them at this point.

Same here. I can share with my friends all I want and I intend to.

Now, I think it's time I switch from fictional-only to MLB. *defiant*

And let's keep things in perspective here, folks. It's MLB we're dealing with not the "Church" of Scientology. MLB ain't coming after 'lil folk.

Let's just see what is coming as the business grows. I hope this will lead to many more sales, and the hiring of several more full time developers.

Will this also affect the names of the minor league teams? I've screenshot all of them just in case I need to edit. But, that's a lot of teams!

That is a good question. They are governed by a separate organisation to MLB, so it might not immediately affect them.

That's the only thing you would think would make it worthwhile. If licensing is excessive, what's the point unless it gets shared across MLB media channels through their own initiatives.

Tell that to the podcasters the MLB had shut down.

MLB gets baseball podcasts dropped from iTunes. Maybe. - SBNation.com

eewwwww...I had no idea about that. It must have been that over-zealous Apple employee that did all of that. Thanks for the link.

Save the structure to an XML file.

Over zealous MLB to start with.

That would be fine if they weren't going to put ridiculous conditions on the release of the game. No way would they agree to a license with the game as it is (at the very least, all brawls, drug suspensions and negative storylines would have to go - because they "show the league in a bad light". I also wonder whether international leagues would survive, since I can't see MLB wanting to have "competition" in a licensed game, which would almost certainly impact fictional leagues too). MLB Licensing will end very badly imho. I will support Markus regardless, but from a personal point of view licensed games can go to hell. I'd rather have no real names in the game than an MLB license if it means losing any of the richness of the game world that OOTP allows.

Hopefully Markus and co make the right decision and I have faith in them.. Like others have said, if the license agreement has an impact on the overall OOTP game, then I don't think it's worth it.. If it's at that point. I think most would rather just take the time to change the team names themselves or even make up their own team names.

OOTP 15 Update #3 coming at the end of the week....

Don't mean to change the licensing topic but IIRC, this is the patch that's supposed to significantly upgrade 3-D in the game. Is that still the case?
