On The Fence

I wasn't sure if I was actually going to buy OOTP 15 this year. But then I read:

"Future versions of OOTP will build on this 3D engine and will eventually feature thrilling 3D animations of on-field play, so you'll be able to watch Robinson's home run trot or see Ortiz take a wide turn at first after that single. Exciting times are ahead!"

Now it looks like I'm buying OOTP 15 and beyond!
(okay, I was probably going to do that anyway)

Definitely excited about this feature, and the future of animations as well

That's why statues should be built in all major cities in honor of Markus.

Someone should, at the very least, start a Baseball Simulation Hall of Fame, and Markus could give the inaugural speech upon his automatic induction (with the 5 year waiting period waived, of course).

Then we include Eddie Dombrower, Charles Merrow and Jack Avery.

Why do you not like this feature? I have to see it before I decide but it sounds cool. I probably will not use it except in my MLB leagues since I have so many custom parks and it will be 2-3 yrs before I get all my parks updated by modders who will be busy updating real parks 1st.

I don't like the ballflight tracker now. I have turned it off. It has no bearing on my game other than an unneeded distraction.

The fact that I could turn it off means it doesn't bother me whatsoever.

At first I didn't see that the new version was optional, which is why I asked. The fact that it is optional means I will turn it off, since it adds nothing to the game (for me).

Now, it is the animations promised for future additions that I am really against, because they will slow down the game a great deal... but again, as long as I can turn them off...

(Though there are other things I wish would be considered higher priority... some are bugs that might be fixed - like the Rule 5 Draft problem, others are actual additions to PLAYING the game - like a built-in WBC and Spring NRIs - instead of just window dressing... but, oh well...)

````````````
Now, to say what I WOULD use graphics for... maybe I would turn them on for World Series Games... or maybe there could be an automated TWIB-like feature. I suppose I would use them then.
Now this has gotten on a negative track, so I want to add that I will be pre-ordering as soon as I get home, because I love this game.
No worries, everything related to 3D is and will remain optional in the future.
Sorry to the OP if I am steering your thread in the wrong direction.
I am hoping they fix ball flight. I do not even pay attention to it since I read the PbP I put the walls in the right place, I dont touch anything else for coordinates, too complicated to get it right.
highlights
would be cool if the game would generate highlight videos. Maybe like player x hits homer #300 off pitcher y - and you can click on a 20 sec vid of it that can be downloaded and posted in forums or website
Someone needs to include a statue of Markus somewhere in a fictional 3D stadium model...
Just pre-ordered. Now I will impatiently wait for April to arrive. Thank god we have OOTP14 to get us through this polar vortex!
"Future versions of OOTP will build on this 3D engine and will eventually feature thrilling 3D animations of on-field play"
And this is THE feature that will make Markus a millionaire. Many baseball fans playing 3D type of games will be buying it. And that's a LOT of people.
Finally, after years of all that hard work Markus, it will pay off big times for you.
I'm sure it will be worth the $50 to $60 range.
Bring it on.
You may be right (and I don't want to turn this into a debate), but I for one hope it doesn't turn into a "joystick game." But if OOTP ends up looking like MLB: The Show but is still played the way we play it now, it will be more awesome than I can comprehend right now, haha.
