Arizona Coyotes LD Albert Yoder will miss up to 2 weeks with a hip flexor strain. The 32 year old Yoder had 15 goals and 53 points with 68 PIMs in 82 games for the Coyotes last year. The 15 goals was a career high for Yoder in 4 NHL seasons.

Winnipeg Jets RD Bob Gorrell will miss 2-3 months due to a herniated disc (neck) The 33 year old had 18 goals and 68 points with 46 PIMs in 75 games for the Jets last season. The 3-time All Star and 1983 Conn Smythe Winner will be missed.

With the NHL season about to get underway, the early Stanley Cup favorites appear to be Montreal, led by goalie Wilf Nestor. General Manager Big T has built a squad that will be the team to beat this year, but can expect challanges from the New York Islanders and Vancouver, featuring winger Maxime Jalbert.

Amoung the darkhorse, Pittsburgh stands out as a possible challenger, with a big season by Zvi Zeiger capable of pushing them into contender status.

The scoring race will likely see Vancouver's Maxime Jalbert challenged by Frantisek Pustejovsky of Dallas and Pittsburgh's Zvi Zeiger.

The top defenceman in the league is generally considered to be Buffalo Sabres blueliner Marvin Rickard, with Arizona's Albert Yoder and Jason DeGroote of the New York Rangers also in the running.

Finally, amoung the goalies, Winnipeg's Chris Garner stands out as the leagues best, while Ottawa Senators netminder Nate Wallace and Wilf Nestor of Montreal can also steal games for their teams.
