AI won't create proper lines

I'm playing as a GM so I can't edit lines, but the AI refuses to properly set up the roster, which has essentially made the game unplayable.
It leaves the 4th RW position open, has a RW(!) playing on defence, and refuses to dress my top two defenders.

Anyone else have this problem/fixes?

Also, is it possible to edit lines even if I'm a just a GM?

Maybe if you try going to Manager options and enable commish mode?

Curious: will turning on commish mode negate "Challenge" mode when its available?

And when you are a GM, is there no way to influence who your coach plays? IE: the "Force" options in OOTP?

Not that I'm aware of

re: comish mode. As far as I know you can't have comish + challenge mode at the same time. That defeats the purpose of challenge mode

Did you select challenge mode already at the start? That may be why. If not please post in the bug section

That's what I was afraid of... I'm fine playing in "challenge" mode.. I do it all the time in OOTPB but I also play in Legacy Mode so I can manage my team as well, and I take ownership of my minor league teams by doing things like managing promotions and demotions and "forcing" players into positions. It would be a great way to say... convert a center to a wing, or get a minor league head coach to play a younger, less skilled goalie...

Its a shame that 5 years in they havent figured out giving the player more control in "challenge" mode... OOTPB started theirs after and they've got it down.. Oh well.. Might have to wait for 6 then.

Being in challenge mode should have nothing to do with the AI being unable to select proper lines. I remember having sometime this problem with last year edition, hope has been fixed for good

The obvious impact of this is that the AI managed teams would also be highly likely to have the same problem.

Also see an example where the depth chart has twonfrok reserve atop depth.. but are not on active roster .. and thus not listed on lines

Playing custom league, in commish mode, no job ...

Can this be explained.. why players high on the depth chart stay on the reserve team and do not play??

It looks like they all eventually get recalled and used properly, but it takes 1-2 months, and that shouldn't happen in the first place - the way the AI cuts down a roster that's above the league limit should never do that. I'm wondering if there might be some issue with the foreign status not being read properly by the AI, since it's a Swiss-based team in a German-based league, but we'll have to dig into the file a bit to see if that's it or something else is going on. The other non-German teams don't seem to be having this issue.

Been wondering about the international rules .. might need to have a few regional options as league bases and not just countries?? Or alternatively, allow for various default rules.... KHL, SHL, NHL ;etc.... or even allow for customized rules... up to you all :-)
