Financials off

Even though I have owned a couple different versions of OOTP, this is the first one I'm actually getting into playing around with more so I'm posting this in the "new to game" forum since I would have to say I'm still new to all this.

So I have set up a historical league starting in 1980 (no minor leagues, just a reserve roster). Going to import real historical rookies each year. This first time through I have turned off financials to limit some of the things to worry about (baby steps...).

Since financials are turned off how will contract works?
Will players just automatically resign with their team each year?
Will players ever become Free Agents so I could go out and sign a FA?
I would assume no multi-year contacts?

Well, the manual says this:

Enable Financial System: If enabled, the league will use OOTP's complete financial system, including team revenue, player salaries, etc. If disabled, all monetary aspects of the game are removed.

So, there are no operational contracts (although you may see remnants of them if you had financials on previously). Players are signed with you in perpetuity, until you trade or release them or they retire. There is no Free Agency, but you can sign "free agents" by right-clicking them and selecting "Sign Player" (instead of "Offer Contract").

By the way, you can turn financials on or off only during the preseason.
