If I could make a suggestion. Could you cut away the dark blue around those buildings in center so that the natural skyline would appear behind the buildings?

Excellent work. If I may make a few constructive suggestions:

  • The grandstand roofs wouldn't be flat - they'd collect rain and snow if they were. Instead, there would be some sort of slant to the roofs.
  • You have a modern catcher's box - that wasn't introduced until 1955. In 1896, there was a catcher's area that was marked by extending the baselines to the grandstand. In other words, it was a big triangle. You can see that in this photo of the West Side Grounds in Chicago:

  • Likewise, many parks had players' and coaches' lines. The players' lines were 50' from and parallel to the baselines, and they'd then be connected to the coaches' lines, which started 75' from the catchers' lines and were 15' from the baselines. You can get a sense of what those looked like in this picture:

  • I can't tell from the pics that you posted, but if you have a five-sided home plate you need to replace that with a four-sided base. The five-sided plate wasn't introduced until 1900.

joefromchicago.....

Excellent observations, and I eventually want to do the Chicago Parks too. I was at the old Comisky Park and Wrigley.......I will keep these in mind and the infield.....that can be done. Actually in the sketch up warehouse they have the old infield set ups.......will closely follow the roof patterns......

That's the fun part. (Jk). If only the game would recognize the textures without having to paint it on all of the faces. Would save me 1/4 of the time

Thanks. One thing I'd change to that 1893 infield is the players' lines. I have them extending beyond the coaches' lines, but the photos I've seen indicate that the players' line wasn't continued past the line that connected the players' and coaches' lines.

It's difficult to get reliable information about these sorts of things, and I get the sense that not all parks strictly followed the rules about diamond layouts. The players' lines were necessary when players sat on benches in foul territory, but they became obsolete once teams starting installing dugouts. Nevertheless, you'll still see photos from the 1910s that show players' lines, so I'm not sure when they were finally abandoned. Today, the coaches' boxes are often marked by just two lines - that's a remnant of the era when the line closest to home plate was connected to the players' line.
