Historical Replay

Inspired by TigerFan and scootermojo (check both of their threads out), I am going to be attempting an NHL historical replay in the near future, beginning in 1931-32. Hope this goes well!

Here's the update up to the end of the 1966-67 NHL season. The big stories were the back to back New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings dynasties in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Toronto won 4 times in 5 years in the mid 1930s, and Montreal won 3 in a row in the early 1940s.

Another story was the Brooklyn Americans, who were a force to be reckoned with, losing in, and then winning the Stanley Cup Finals in their final two seasons before being disbanded.

The Toronto Maple Leafs went from 1938 until 1965 without a Stanley Cup while every other team won at least 3 times in that span! It wasn't until 1966 when the Leafs won a Stanley Cup on the shoulders of Bobby Hull.

Here are some influential players from each team:
Brooklyn Americans (formerly New York Americans)
Turk Broda, Goalie (1937-1942)
Toe Blake, Left Wing (1934-1942)
Neil Colville, Center (1938-1942)
Milt Schmidt, Center (1938-1942)
Howie Morenz, Center (1935-1937)
Wally Stanowski, Defense (1938-1942)

Montreal Canadiens

Norm Ullman, Center (1956-present)
Ed Litzenberger, Left Wing (1953-1962)
Gordie Drillon, Right Wing (1934-1943)
Jean Ratelle, Center (1959-present)

About halfway through the 1970s, and the Stanley Cup table has taken an interesting turn, as one of the NHL's more tortured franchises throughout the Original Six era has taken over in the past 8 seasons of radical expansion!
