It sounds like you are using the default ethnicities.txt instead of the one from the mod.

No, I just double-checked that. In the /database folder, the ethnicities.txt has the following two lines:

0,U.S. (Modern),0,0,0,1000,0,
39,U.S. (African-American),1000,0,0,0,0,

Doing it all again right now...

1. Re-Import names/ethnicities...

2. Explore World....just verified that only two languages are now listed for United States:
U.S. (Modern) = 88
U.S. (Historical) = 12

3. Functions-->Randomize Player Names

Now I go back to Explore World to look at U.S. Players.


I see no players named "Hernandez" or "Rodriguez" in my U.S. set now, I'm thinking that's a pretty clear indicator that it's using your mod. Also, just from scrolling through, I've looked at over 100 U.S. players, and every one is now either black or white.


Out of 2,936 U.S. Players, it seems to be producing a lot of duplicate names, too. It loves "Miller" in particular. There are six Dave Millers, three Jamie Milers, two Jayden Millers, two T.J. Millers, and two Tom Millers.

There are white guys named Omarion Jackosn and Antonio Jackson, and a black guy named Tommy Goldstein, among other surprises.

I'm going to try simming forward to the first draft (It's pre-inaugural draft right now) and have a look at those players.

Yeah, when I sim forward to the draft class, no issues at all. Every single guy that had a distinctively "black" or "white" name was the race you'd expect (and zero Millers out of 274 Americans in the draft pool.) I'm guessing that it's some oddity related to randomizing names if no one has any other ideas.

If you are indeed using the mod's ethnicities.txt file (and it appears you are), then my guess would be that the behavior you've experienced must be due to the game using ALL the names from your league when it randomizes, rather than just names from the new list.

When I use your file starting a new league what I'm getting is all players named Jim Unknown. If I switch out the and use the game's original world_default file it works but it won't produce african american players. It dosent look like it works with OOTP13..Any ideas?

You can use the default world.xml file, if you want. Just go into the "Explore the World" option and click on the Nation Editor tab for the USA and set "Language / Name Origin #1" to US (Modern) and put it at 88, then set "Language / Name Origin #2"to US (Historical) and put it to 12.

You could also edit these values directly in the world_default.xml file to get the names to generate upon league creation.

that's right.

I use your Modern names and they work very well in OOTP13, but as suggested, I had to "redo" the changes in the world_default file (i.e. not replace it, but modify it). The rest (names, first_names, nicknames,etc.) can simply be copied over the OOTP13 ones (after backing them up... )

Is it normal that the game is still generating nicknames for some players?

I started a new game and replaced the nickname file with questdog's.

No, it is not normal. You MUST replace the nickname file BEFORE you start a new game. If you did that, check the file and make sure it is empty of nicknames. Also, make sure you renamed the file to nicknames.txt

Yea Im not even sure if the mod is even working for me at all.

Just ran into a black guy named Ron Nowik.

I also installed the files before I had OOTP started up but I did notice that I had to change US Modern to 88 and Historic to 12. I thought this was already done once you installed the files? If so, then the mod is definitly not working for me. I also have alot of Hispanic- American.

I am going to try this again. Is the download from ootpmods.com the correct version?

Using it with a Quickstart game would be like using it with a game already started. Only files that will work are the first and last names and then you must import them. You must manually set the USA to 88 USA (Modern) and 12 USA (Historical). There is no way to get rid of nicknames.

Ok it does work on my end, I tried a new custom game and everything was fix accept US players were named "Jim Unknown" Unfortunately, I like to have real major leaguers and even when I use "new major league game" and hit the re-import button, the names are still the default.

Glad Im not going crazy lol.

Sure, that would be easy to accomplish...the hard part is making the lists.....you can use any of the ethnicity numbers....pick out one that you won't miss and replace the names with Cuban names....then set Cuba to use them....
