Using fictional players in NHL?

I would like to use the standard setup for the NHL in FHM4 but use fictional players instead of real players.
I could try to re-create the NHL and minor leagues using Custom setup but that is very time-consuming.
Is there another, easier, method?

No, that's pretty much the only way to do it as far as I know.

That’s how I play. It’s easy to set up. You just select new custom game and then select NHL 2017 format. There is an option for fictional players. Once you do that you’ll be given all the standard teams and the option to add minor leagues and junior leagues. Their default setup is the same teams and logos as the real NHL. It will take you about 10 minutes.

Would that work with historical too? Can you run the team adjustments but with fictional players? That would be cool
