Season 10 (2028) General Discussion

New Year, new You?

The Raccoons have been promoted to Perfect, the Rebels have been promoted to Silver, both will probably suffer, and I am shocked to find out that Blake Treinen dropped ten points overnight. What happened to the poor guy? Oakland is far away from me, and the A's barely exist on my radar. Both arms shredded clean off in a wood chipper accident?

Who would have thought that I would ever build a team with the bullpen as the soft spot??

I am currently also entertaining the thought of using a third team to play only the auction house and see how far that is gonna get me. No packs - ever. Well, except for the six starter packs, obviously. AND - how soon will that team overtake the (pack only) Rebels, who can't seem to pull a diamond card to save their sorry bums?

But it sounds like so much work …!

Good Luck all!

My All-NL and All-AL teams are both in Gold together for the first time, and despite Uecker's Underdogs folding in Gold after several unsuccessful seasons, Bob Uecker managed to scramble together some new investors for his next project - Bob's Milwaukee All-Stars, who will start life in Silver

My Colonels were only the third-best team in the division last week. I was fortunate to recover from a disasterous May and squeeze into the wild card game. My league is a bit more favorable this time and I hope to avoid my typical slow start.

I vowed that the starting pitcher auditions would be over this week, but the auction house proved to be very challenging over the weekend. Prices were high and the pickings were slim. I did get a #2 starter in Tim Keefe, who will provide more strikeouts this year along with a full season from new ace Curt Schilling. I am still looking for one more pitcher but the need is not as urgent as last Monday morning (except that I would like to move my fifth starter into the bullpen to replace Blake Treinen).

I made a change in the outfield, moving 92 Rose from DH to left field. Yelich will move from left to right, and 98 Frank Robinson will be the DH. I am hoping that this improves the outfield defense a little, and it will give me more flexibility to replace Robinson if he has another sub-par start. He finished strong after a horrible start so I am hopeful for a bounceback year, but I need more than a .748 OPS and 65 RBI from my cleanup hitter.

Not familiar with the Shem Lollar card but Lavalliere has been my backup catcher for 3+ seasons in perfect, exceptional defense and has hit .293 with a .350 OBP. No power but I love the D ratings and the fact he isn't totally anemic offensively.

My Thieves won Gold and got promoted to Diamond. I fear how they will do though. My Barnstormers won Silver and got to game 7 in the Gold final and were doormats their first season in Diamond last season.

My Bees seem poised to advance out of Gold but keep getting eliminated from the divisional round or wild card. Added diamond Fergie Jenkins to get them over the hump this year.

EDIT:
Westheim, I added Dick Bartell last season to shore up the Thieves defense. Great card! MVP last year. I'm also glad I unloaded Blake Trienen when he was still diamond. Sheesh!

Man, I started that third team, the Accountants, and I can't get into an entry pool. Probably I'm the only team waiting.

Added 97 Alex Rodriguez to replace 83 Carew at 1B, along with 93 Buck Leonard and 94 Edgar Martinez to platoon at DH, finally adding a little pop and BBs to a team that hit like maybe 75 HR last season and is always near the bottom of the league in taking BBs. Might add Trout to replace Erstad in LF if a couple of other cards sell.

Hoping to make another run in the playoffs this season. This team so far has shown that strong pitching along with great defense can win in the playoffs. Hitting and pitching will go cold, but great defense doesn't.

Orcin, Sutton's final stats were 19-6, 1.96 ERA, .89 WHIP, 2.83 FIP, 5.9 WAR. Was hot nearly all season long, easily best stats on the team last season. Doubtful he'll pitch that well again for a 2nd week.

Wow, that would have led my team too. That card has gone up in value also. I guess all good starters have.

Nothing exciting to report since I am free to play but I may back my way into my first ever perfect card. I pulled a Cody Bellinger early and he is up to 99 now.
He is on my Golden Lions team currently trying to establish themselves in gold.

After not making any playoffs last week, I'm thoroughly enjoying my winning record in perfect league this morning

So there are a couple of Raccoons in the league this time around. The Portland Raccoons aren't scheduled to play us so unless we both make it to the WS, we won't meet. Good luck to you in perfect!

I feel sorry for the teams in the AC East. The Bronx Bombers have a career WPct of .815. My best WPct is .704, which I've had for 3 seasons in a row. They've also won the championship 6 out of 7 years (obviously not every super-team has the problem of getting knocked out of the playoffs early).

My team as is should be able to win the division again, but I'm tempted to try some guys out from the reserve roster even though they'll probably not do as well. It's just kind of boring to play the same guys all the time. But there is at least one guy on the reserve (Shoeless Joe, Legend) who might do better than one of my regulars so I'll probably give him a shot this year.

All three of my teams are off to slow starts, despite what I thought were some decent upgrades. It's still way too early to start panicking.

Bought some players for all of my teams and then just couldn't find anyone I wanted, so being bored I bought 6 packs for my YakAnglers. Best I got was a 73 rated dude and nearly all were useless Irons. Kicking myself for blowing those PPs. It is a lot of fun doing it, definitely feels like throwing a $20 into a slot machine hoping to hit that jackpot, and being pissed after you lose it in a minute.

So as any sane person would do I bought 2 more packs for my Marathoners and on the 2nd pack I got an 85 Hank Aaron. Not the greatest but it was actually a position I needed.

I really need to step away from this for a few minutes. Maybe 30 minutes.

Would you feel worse if it were perfect Walter's first two starts? I thought so.

Comically bad in one-run games. 1-7 in those so far.

I knew it'd be a rough go in Silver, but I didn't think we'd try to invent all these brand new ways to lose in agonizing fashion.

The Raccoons always seem to have a great April. So far we're tied for the best record with a 16-4 record. Our SP ERA of 2.62 is only 3rd and our 1.93 bullpen ERA is only 4th so it looks like there's some pretty good pitching so far.

I've got my park factors set to maximize hitting and that's worked very well for a several seasons now. We're 9-0 at home so far and each year, we've done a fair bit better at home than on the road. I guess it's because our pitching is our strong suit and the boost to the hitting gives us an edge.

Our defense is never that strong, but with our pitching, it doesn't seem to matter. Nevertheless, I've considered changing things up a bit (without getting rid of anyone) to see how we'd do with a stronger defense.

I finally was able to sell Jimmie Foxx after many unsuccessful attempts. Now if I can just sell off a few others, I'll be able to afford a nice shiny new SP - well, assuming one shows up on the AH and at a reasonable price.

The Marathoners have had some real tough games as of late, like blowing a 9 run lead in the 6th inning. Losing a game 16-19. Losing twice 1-0. A walk off grand slam to lose 9-8 (I think), and another 4 runs gave up in the 9th to lose a game.

The Miners are starting to heat up. Made several changes to add defensive players and it's working better than I'd ever believed. They stand at 14-5 and won 9 in a row.

After last week's 5.27 starter's ERA, I decided to go full-on smoke and mirrors with the pitching staff this season in P415.

I am running a 4-man "rotation" of nasty, lefty bullpen arms. Each "starter" is on a strict 25-pitch limit (or 20-pitches...I've been experimenting and haven't committed fully to either number yet). I picked up Willie Hernandez and Aroldis Chapman today for about 17,000 PP total to join Will Smith and Felipe Vazquez in this so-called "rotation."

Of course, the meat of this pitching staff is a deep bullpen of right-handed "relievers" that are all converted starting pitchers. There you'll find Gerrit Cole (K rating keeps going up, but HR rating keeps going down...), Brandon Webb, Steve Busby, Strasburg, Paddack, and Duplantier. To supplement these innings-eaters/follower types are nominal relievers Bruce Sutter, Eckersley, and Will Harris to handle late-game situations.

It's still very early, but I'm not complaining about a 16-8 start to the week. The "bullpen" ERA is 3.25--I am considering this metric to represent my starting pitching because 7+ innings of the game are now covered by the "bullpen." If an ERA in the 3's holds up all season, that'll be a far cry from last week's 5.27 with the normal pitching staff configuration. And a great way to not pay 50,000-100,000+ PP for adequate starting pitching. Heck, I'd consider this experiment a success with a "bullpen" ERA in the low 4's at the end of the week.

Better start this season. White Tigers didn't end up in a division with 2 crazy good teams this time and we're sitting a half game back at 15-10 (we were 14-5 at one point but then we lost 5 straight). Black Panthers started out 2-3 then won 13 in a row, now at 18-9. We won both pitcher and batter of the month; 1998 Aaron Sele went 4-0 allowing 6 earned runs in 38 2/3 while 1990 Barry Bonds hit .329/.467/.600 with 6 HRs, 22 runs, and 21 RBIs. The Golden Lions (who made the playoffs last season but lost in the wild card game) are tied for the lead at 17-10, though they too are in a bit of a slump after starting the season 16-6. So altogether we're 50-29.
