Last 64 WS Champs Double Elimination Tournament
Hi to everyone... I just had this crazy idea, what if we could sim an epic tournament facing the last 64 World Series Champions.
I got the info and place them into random seeds with this Bracket generator. It's already an awesome idea, but single elimination just does not make justice... So, let's make it World Baseball Classic look-a-like with a double elimination format. The games are all Managed by Computer Al. I just watch them to follow players. Im currently on game 19 out of 127 games (if necessary)... the tournament is just starting.. so i thought of posting the tournament here on the forums. Pretty interesting games so far where the 1990 Reds defeated the current World Champs 2015 Royals... The 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers destroyed the legendary curse-ending 2004 Red Sox 17-7. And Moises Alou, from the 1997 Marlins hit the Cycle in a 5-3 win against the 1962 Yankees... The Yankees, the most winning team of all, are not doing so good so far. placing already six teams in Losers Bracket. Here's the link of the tournament in case you wanna follow, i'll be posting updates LAST 64 CHAMPIONS - Challonge And a screenshot |

BRACKET UPDATE: http://challonge.com/L64
After 48 games played. The first 2 rounds of the Winners Bracket are complete. Leaving only 16 teams on their rute to the finals on this key bracket, where the teams still have a second chance.. The round 2 of winners bracket left pretty amazing games. Including an epic comeback from the 1977 Yankees, with 7 runs in the 9th inning against the mighty 1979 Pirates. The 1993 Blue Jays are headed as favorite to win the Tournament after they destroyed Randy Johnson and Curt Schillings 2001 Diamondbacks 12-3. Sid Fernandez from the 1986 Mets threw a Shutout against the 1964 Cardinals, and him along the legend Sandy Koufax from the 1965 Dodgers are the more solid pitchers of the tournament so far. Cal Ripken Jr from the 1983 Orioles delivered a Hall Of Fame like performance, driving in 6 runs and batting 4 hits in 5 at-bats against the 2013 Red Sox. The Phillies (1980 and 2008) and the Blue Jays (With their 1992-1993 back to back World Champs) are living a dream placing their teams in the Last 16 of the Winners Bracket. The Yankees have two teams in this stage aswel, but considering there are only two Yankees teams out of FOURTEEN (The other 12 teams have a spot in Losers Bracket), i wouldn't call it "living a dream".Here are the next match-ups of the Winners Bracket Quote:

BRACKET UPDATE: http://challonge.com/L64
The first round of losers bracket is over. And the first 16 teams of the Last 64 World Series Champs are heading home. Now, we are starting Losers Bracket Round 2, where other 16 teams will continue to struggle into the final stages and the other 16 teams will be eliminated. The oldest teams of the tournament, the back to back champions 1951-1952 Yankees were early turned down. The extinct Milwauke Braves and New York Giants were eliminated aswell, The "Must See" game of the Round, the 1998 Yankees against the curse ending 2004 Red Sox, didn't dissapoint, with a score of 7-6 where both teams exchanged leading the score about 3 times each. But finally, a miracously double by Manny Ramirez in the 8th inning gave the Red Sox the one run lead to take the game. Earning Curt Schilling the win. The back to back Champions, from the Big Red Machine maintain alive, as the 1976 Reds delivered an epic come back with 4 runs in the 8th inning to send the 1970 Orioles to the time Machine. Both teams from the Big Red Machine (1975-1976) are still in the Losers bracket and one loss away from being deported from the tournament. The Yankees had a positive Losers Bracket Round 1 and still have 9 teams alive in the tournament, out of 14. So far the Big Fail of the tournament are the 2005 White Sox, led by controversial Ozzie Guillen. Who managed to leave the tournament without scoring a single run, losing both games 1-0 and 4-0 most recently against the 1967 Cardinals with an extraordinary performance by Steve Carlton. No more talking, the Losers Bracket Round 2 is minutes away from starting. Let me remind you, another 16 teams will be eliminated at this stage. Team that loses can pack their bags and head to the Time Machine. Additional Rule: The team coming from Winners Bracket (The one which Lost in Winners Bracket Round 2) gets home advantage. Here are the Match-Ups for Losers Bracket Round 2: Quote:
In case you wanna check-up the bracket, here's the official link to follow up any match-ups. http://challonge.com/L64 After this Losers Bracket Round 2, we are heading back to Winners Bracket Round 3, and right after that... Losers Bracket Round 3 and 4 will be played. Be sure to watch them as the tournament goes hotter and hotter Finally, here they are... Complete results for Losers Bracket Round 1: Quote:

BRACKET UPDATE; http://challonge.com/L64
The round 2 of Losers Bracket is over and 16 more teams are heading home. At this point, we could say we are half-way to the end the tournament. With 32 teams remaining out of 64. Remarkable to this round, the pithing staff as we experienced amazing games. The 2014 Giants made their way into the first 32 teams with a great performance by Madison Burngarner, being a Giant in key games, defeating Hall of Famer Fernando Valenzuela and the 1981 Dodgers 2-1. The current World Champions, 2015 Royals said farewell to the tournament after Bert Blyveven of the 1979 Pirates tossed a 9-0 Shutout. Earning his second win. The only game including a batting festival was the 2006 Cardinals against 2007 Red Sox, ending 12-6 for the Sox, with Coco Crisp /yeah, you read that right/, batting 4 hits in 4 At-Bats. Including a Home Run and 4 RBI's. The legend Randy Johnson for the 2001 Diamondbacks, set-up a Tournament Record at the moment, striking out 15 batters against the 1984 Tigers and pitching 8 scoreless inning, but the Dbacks didn't left 2001 at all, because Closer Byung Hyun-Kim collapsed in the 9th, earning 4 runs and getting the Loss, and Blown Save. The game facing 1962 and 1958 Yankees, ended up 2-1, with SP Whitey Ford, earning the Winn, the Loss and MVP, just like Bugs Bunny. And the legendary 2004 Red Sox, had to go back in the and built a new statue for Manny Ramirez, as his key home run again in the 8th inning, earned the Comeback and win against the 2010 Giants. SP Frank Viola from the 1987 Twin, pitched a No-Hit No Run through six innings, and early scoring from his team was more than enough to accomplish another win against the 1969 Mets with a score of 6-2. Vida Blue from the 1974 Athletics tossed the second shut out of the round, defeating 2-0 the 1997 Marlins. And 1976 Reds, nicknamed the Big Red Machine, managed to stay alive thanks to a 2-run home run from Pete Rose in the 7th inning that closed the door for the 1995 Braves and professor Greg Maddux. Now, when we got only 32 teams left, it's time to come back to Winners Round, where we'll have this amazing matches, and where 16 teams will give everything to earn a spot in the first 16 teams of the tournament. BRACKET UPDATE: http://challonge.com/L64
Another round is over, and 8 teams are moving forward into the Quarter Finals of the Winners Bracket. Sandy Koufax for the 1965 Dodgers, at this moment holds the MVP of the tournament, as he managed to stop the most offensive team so far, the 1993 Blue Jays, and defeated them with a score of 5-2, and earned his 3rd Win in 3 games started. Randy Johnson's record of 15 strike outs didn't last long, as Ron Guidry, from the 1977 Yankees, fanned 17 batters of the 2011 Cardinals, 17K's that his team didn't appreciate much because the yankees still lost 3-2. Behind the 1993 Blue Jays, the surprise of the tournament IMO, the 2002 Angels, are now the most offensive team, scoring 8 runs in their victory against the 2012 Giants. They have 27 runs scored in only 3 games. Winners Bracket Round 4 is composed by the next games: Quote:
Now we are heading to Loser Bracket with two straight rounds to play, 16 games between round 3 and 4... And 16 more teams will be saying Adios to the tournament. Here are the match ups for Losers Bracket Round 3, and which team awaits in Round 4. Quote:

Now this is what I call a tournament!!! Great idea!!
The only thing I would do different is have every matchup a best of 7 series not a single game. But love this concept!
