Winging it
Let me start off by saying that I am a die hard Red Wings fan. But I tried to set aside my usual preferential treatment of most of the players and make some massive moves. Just for a little fun. Stick with me and see if it works

Before the season starts
Trade with Dallas
- To Detroit: Tyler Seguin - To Dallas: Pavel Datsyuk, Zach Nastasiuk, 2nd and 7th (2016) This one hurt. But Datsyuk starts the season hurt and I didn't like my center depth. This gives me a franchise center for a long time Trade with Tampa - To Detroit: Victor Hedman - To Tampa: Johan Franzen, 1st and 2nd (2018), 2nd and 3rd (2017) Addresses one of Detroit's biggest issues on defense. Hedman is young enough to be a long term cornerstone. Trade with Arizona - To Detroit: 2nd (2016) - To Arizona: Daniel Cleary, 7th (2016, 2017, 2018) Screw Dan Cleary. That is all |

Start of the Preseason
Well I had put Quincey on the trade block to see what I might get and Toronto offered Kasperi Kapanen. That's a no brainer
Trade with Toronto -To Detroit: Kasperi Kapanen - To Toronto: Kyle Quincey Zetterberg-Seguin-Nyquist Tatar-Richards-Abdelkader Jurco-Sheahan-Pulkkinen Miller-Andersson-Glendening Hedman-Kronwall DeKeyser-Green Ericsson-Kindl Howard Mrazek Howard is on a very short leash to start the season. I don't think he's a good enough goalie to win the cup with but with the amount he's making we'll see |

Hell of a first def pairing. Will be keenly following, although me being me, I would've stuck Abdelkader on the first line.

Thought about it but he's one of my better defensive forwards so he gets a lot of penalty kill time. He's also asking 4.25 million a year for 3 years so I'm hoping he'll have a less than ideal year |

Seeing that Nyquist led in points, I should probably shut up. If you're ever looking for defensive forwards (such as Abdelkader), my hometown Flyers have Wayne Simmonds.

Opinions are always welcome, thanks for reading. The Wings have so many good forwards in the system my bigger concern is still adding on defense. I like my top 4 but not so much after that

Very true, and a player like Seth Jones or P.K. Subban are really tough to get, so Hedman was a great pickup. Matt Carle is a good def option for a few yrs, although I'm going by who I really know. But hey, it's your team, not mine. (Griffin Reinhart would cost way too much, but is a good youngster IMO.)

Halfway mark
Detroit is tied with Nashville for 4th in the league with 53 points (26-14-1)
Montreal is still leading the league with 63 points. Chicago is second with 57. McDavid has been unable to stay healthy. He has 26 points in 24 games. Goal Leaders: Nyquist (17), Seguin (16), Abdelkader/Jurco/Tatar (11) Assists: Zetterberg (29), Kronwall (23), Nyquist (16) Points: Zetterberg (35), Nyquist (33), Seguin (32) Despite the low goal numbers, the Wings are 3rd in the league in goals scored with 127 and 1st with 3.1 goals/game. Kane leads the league in goals and points with 24-26-50, H. Sedin has 34 assists. Goalie stats are hard to figure since it pulls stats from backups but Price appears to be leading the league. Howard went down with an injury for about 4 weeks and Mrazek was unable to seize the starter job. He won most of the games but has mediocre stat line. At the trade deadline I intend on looking for defensive help. I've been thinking about dumping Howard, a prospect and some picks for Schneider or Bob. Any suggestions for some depth defenseman I should pick up? Other interesting note: Benoit Pouliot suffered a career ending injury Last edited by basnyy213; 09-29-2015 at 07:12 PM. |

If only this would happen in real life. I've never understood Holland's love affair with Cleary.

it comes back to that deal he turned down with Philadelphia. Holland, Babcock and Cleary had a handshake deal that they'd make up as much of the 8.25 mil over 3 years that he turned down. His whole salary can be buried in the minors this season so I'm not too worried about it but I agree. I also don't think any team would touch him but that's the magic of video games! |

End of the Season
Final Standings
Atlantic: Montreal (118), Detroit (108), Tampa (89), Florida (81), Ottawa (80), Toronto (70), Buffalo (69), Boston (67) Metro: Philadelphia (115), Carolina (100), Washington (98), Pittsburgh (97), Columbus (W1-95), NYI (W2-95), NJ (88), NYR (84) Pacific: SJ (97), LA (94), Anaheim (88), Calgary (97), Vancouver (77), Edmonton (77), Arizona (76) Central: Chicago (109), St Louis (100), Minnesota (98), Colorado (94), Nashville (W1-90), Dallas (W2-79), Winnipeg (60) So.... not really sure what happened here. Although I do like seeing Boston come in near the bottom not sure that actually happens. This is an interesting result. Philly in second is a shock. Goals: Ovi (40), Couture (38), Stamkos (38) Giroux (37), MacKinnon (37) Kane dropped all the way down to 12th despite leading all season Assists: Getzlaf (51), H. Sedin (49), Toews (48), Crosby (47), Doughty (47) Points: Crosby (83), Giroux (80), Ovi (78), Stamkos (78), Toews (78) McDavid: 58 games 15-39-54, Eichel: 73 games 22-21-43 RED WINGS: G: Seguin (29), Nyquist (27), Jurco (22) A: Zetterberg (44), Kronwall (38), Seguin (38) P: Seguin (67), Z (65), Nyquist (62) Mrazek firmly seized the starting position with 36 wins in 56 games, a 1.99 GAA and .920 SV% I've attached a picture of my teams stats |

Too late for this season, but if you're still looking to upgrade your defense for next year - I recommend going after Trevor Daley, Johnny Boychuck, or maybe Andrei Markov.

From what I know Daley and Markov I'm looking for more defensive minded players. Boychuk would be a nice addition but realistically my top 4 is set for at least 3 years (Kronwall, Hedman, DeKeyser and Green) so I would be adding him as a #5 defenseman

Playoffs
Well we flamed out in the playoffs. Dropped a series 4-1 against Tampa. The Pittsburgh won the Cup over San Jose
The draft was a disappointment due to my dealing early, I only had 3 picks. I nabbed right winger Patrik Laine (2.5a/4.5a) with the 20th pick. Going into the offseason I lost a few prospects that won't ever make the roster. Brad Richards (7-27-34) walked to be replaced by Dylan Larkin in the 2C spot. I wasn't going to pay Justin Abdelkader (16-20-36) $4 million a season so he's gone and I brought up Tyler Bertuzzi to play 3rd line left wing. Kopitar hit free agency and got 7.2/yr for 5 from Buffalo Resigned Drew Miller 1.5/yr for 2 Signed Nicholas Leguerrier to entry level deal (2a/3.5a) -gonna send him to minors, has a high defense stat. We'll see if he pans out Signed Luke Schenn 2.3/yr 3 years Signed Marcus Johannson 4.2/yr for 3 years traded Brendan Smith to LA for a 2017 5th traded Johnathon Ericsson to Toronto with a 2nd and 4th for Evan Cormier (18 year old Goalie prospect 2.5a/4.5a) |
