originator : probabilities in dat files
I was playing with the originator today, actually the originsonly, and building a file from scratch for my Quebec league, I have some problems.
My first try, my file was in order of city size, with the smallest at the top. I got some origins generated, but somehow, for all the numbers I had for frequencies, only the first one for each number got picked. (Of all the town I had listed with a 1, it always picked the 1st one, but it also picked some toiwns with frequency 2, but always the same one...). I reordred the file alphabetically, and now it only assigns the first few towns on the list. Now, I have no clue how this works... |

I think this is the same problem that has been noted, and I don't think we have an answer for it yet. Here is the thread dealing with the Originator. Sorry, wish I could help.

I am not sure your problem is related to the other thread. The frequency of each city is not directly related to the number next to the city. The numbers are progressive and the frequency is determined by the difference between the city's number and the number of the city above it.
If you wanted New York to have a frequency of 3, Boston to have a frequency of 5 and Chicage a frequency of 2, your file should look like this: New York 3 Boston 8 Chicago 10 I have not played with the origins for a while, but that should get you started. |
