Brown was perfect through three as the Cubs shutout streak reached 21 innings.

In the bottom of the third, Schulte knocked in a run with a single.

After three: Chicago 1 Cincinnati 0.

In the top of the fourth, Hinchman struck out for the 40th time this season.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Cubs had runners at second and third with one out. Hinchman then caught a fly ball by Moran before throwing Sheckard out at home after he had tagged up.

In the top of the fifth, the perfect game bid ended with a two out single by Odwell.

However, the Cubs shutout streak reached 24 innings.

In the bottom of the sixth, Schulte nabbed second for his 30th stolen base of the season. He would go on to score on a Sheckard sacrifice fly.

After six: Chicago 2 Cincinnati 0.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Cubs loaded the bases with two out. But Chance lined out to short to end the inning.

Brown went on to finish off the Cubs third straight complete game shutout victory.

Final score: Chicago 2 Cincinnati 0.

In the bottom of the first, Steinfeldt scored the game's first run, coming in from third when Sheckard grounded out to third.

Reulbach was perfect through three as the Cubs have now gone 30 straight innings without allowing a run.

In the bottom of the second, Steinfeldt picked up an RBI on a ground rule double. Steinfeldt went on to score from third when Hofman hit into the 6-4-3.

In the top of the third, Beckley hit an RBI single.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Cardinals third error of the game led to an RBI single by Kling. Beebe then added an RBI single of his own on his second hit of the game.

In the top of the fifth, a single by Shannon brought in a run. Beckley then hit an RBI double.

In the bottom of the sixth, Hofman swiped second for his 20th stolen base of the season. But he was caught stealing third.

After six: Chicago 4 St Louis 3.

In the bottom of the eighth, Steinfeldt was hit by a pitch and had to leave the game with a hand injury. He was replaced by Bull Smith.

In the top of the ninth, the Cardinals put the tying run at third but pinch hitter Al Burch grounded to second to end the game.

The errors proved to be the difference as none of the Cubs runs were earned.

Schulte followed with his 20th double of the season to put runners at second and third with one out. Tinker then flied out to left and Odwell threw Chance out at home when he had tagged up.

In the top of the first, Chance put the Cubs on the board with an RBI single. Slagle added a two run double. Then a Hofman single scored Slagle.

In the top of the second, Evers brought Beebe home with a sacrifice fly. Chance added another run-scoring single. Two more scored on a Slagle triple. Slagle then scored when Tinker doubled. Tinker was thrown out trying to swipe third giving McLean his 10th caught base stealer of the season. The Cubs had an even dozen hits in their first two innings.

After three: Chicago 9 Cincinnati 0.

In the top of the fifth, the scoring continued for the Cubs as Schulte picked up an RBI single. Slagle added an RBI single and was a home run short of the cycle.

Cy Morgan came on to pitch for the Reds in the top of the sixth. But he could not stop the onslaught as Sheckard hit an RBI double. However, Sheckard pulled up with a leg injury running the bases and was replaced by Pat Moran.

In the bottom of the sixth, the shutout bid ended when Barry scored from third on a Seymour groundout to third.

After six: Chicago 12 Cincinnati 1.

The final three innings went by quietly. The Cubs got the easy win as they out hit the Reds 19-4.

The Chicago Cubs begin a four game home series today against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates are just one game behind the first place New York Giants in the National League standings and the Cubs are just a half game behind the Pirates. In the top of the first, Ritchey put the Pirates on the board with an RBI triple.

In the bottom of the first, Evers swiped second with one out for his 40th stolen base of the season. Chance then brought him home with a triple to tie the game. Chance would go on to score the go-ahead run on a ground out to short by Schulte.

In the bottom of the second, Slagle picked up an RBI single.

In the top of the fourth, the Pirates loaded the bases with two out. Phillippe then singled to score one run but Clarke was thrown out at home by Slagle for the third out as he tried to score from second.

Beaumont led off the top of the sixth by drawing his 40th walk of the season. He then moved to second when Ritchey hunted for his 10th sacrifice hit of the season. But he would be stranded there.

Clarke led off the game with a single for his 150th hit of the season. The Pirates went on to load the bases with nobody out. Nealon then brought two home with a double. Sheehan followed with an RBI single. Nealon then scored when Gibson grounded into the 4-6-3.

In the top of the fifth, Nealon picked up another RBI with a single. He would then score on a throwing error by Schulte.

After six: Pittsburgh 6 Chicago 0.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Cubs loaded the bases with nobody out. Then Steinfeldt put the Cubs on the board with a two run single. A couple of batters later and Schulte would score from third when Slagle grounded out to second.

In the top of the eighth, the Pirates got a run back when Meier hit an RBI single.

In the bottom of the eighth, a Chance single scored Sheckard from second but he injured his knee sliding into home plate and had to leave the game. Steinfeldt then added an RBI single and the six run deficit was down to two. Chance then scored on a wild pitch to cut it to one. Steinfeldt then scored the tying run on a Tinker single.

In the bottom of the ninth, with Kling at third and two out, Evers delivered the walk off RBI single as the Cubs rallied from down 6-0 to win.

Chance then scored from third on a Schulte groundout to first. Tinker would steal his 20th base of the season in the bottom of the first as well but he would be left stranded at second.

In the top of the fourth, Beaumont scored on a wild pitch to put the Pirates on the board. Ritchey then scored on a fielder's choice to tie the game.

The bottom of the sixth ended with Peitz throwing Schulte out at second for his 30th caught base stealer of the season.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Cubs put Chance on second representing the winning run but he was caught stealing third. Tinker then singled and stole second but Evers flew out to center and the game went into extra innings.

After nine: Pittsburgh 2 Chicago 2.

In the top of the tenth, the Cubs committed their fourth error of the game and the Pirates had Beaumont on first representing the go-ahead run with two outs. Ritchey then hit his 20th double of the season but Beaumont was thrown out at home to retire the side.

In the bottom of the tenth, with Kling at third and two out, Steinfeldt singled up the middle to end the game.

Final score: Chicago 3 Pittsburgh 2 10 innings.

In the top of the first, Chance picked up his 50th RBI of the season with a run-scoring single that put the Cubs on the board. Steinfeldt added an RBI single of his own in the inning.

In the bottom of the first, Smoot delivered a two out RBI single to put the Cardinals on the board.

After three: Chicago 2 St Louis 1.

In the top of the fourth, the Cubs had runners at first and second with two out. Brown singled up the middle but Smoot threw Hofman out at home as he was trying to score from second and that retired the side.

In the top of the fifth, Chance picked up an RBI with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the sixth, the Cubs had runners at first and second with nobody out. Hofman laid down his 10th sacrifice hit of the season to move the runners to second and third. An intentional walk to Kling loaded the bases with one out. Brown then went down on strikes and there were two out. Fromme then struck out Sheckard to get out of the inning.

After six: Chicago 3 St Louis 1.

In the top of the seventh, with two men on and one out, a similar occurrence to fourth inning occurred with Murray throwing Tinker out at home after a Steinfeldt single. An intentional pass to Evers loaded the bases with two out. Hofman then grounded to second to end another blown scoring opportunity by the Cubs.

In the top of the ninth, however, Steinfeldt was able to bring Schulte home from second with a single to pick up his 70th RBI of the season. It was the 10th hit of the game for the Cubs.

Brown was then perfect in the bottom of the ninth as the Cubs improved to 10-0 in September.

Final score: Chicago 4 St Louis 1.

Brown led off the game by issuing a free pass to Sheckard. It was the 20th walk allowed this season by Brown. Tinker followed with a single that moved Sheckard to third and extended his hit streak to 11 games. Chance then singled to score Sheckard. Tinker would later score when Beckley was unable to field a Steinfeldt grounder. A walk to Evers loaded the bases with one out. Slagle flew out to center but did not bring home a run and there were two down. But Kling knocked in two with a single. Nine men came to bat in the first with four of them scoring.

In the bottom of the second, Hoelskoetter scored on a Brown groundout to short.

The Cardinals committed their second and third error of the game in the top of the third but the Cubs failed to score.

In the bottom of the third, Smoot brought in a run with a triple and then scored himself when Grady grounded out to second.

After three: Chicago 4 St Louis 3.

In the top of the fifth, Slagle brought in a run with a sacrifice fly.

In the bottom of the fifth, Burch doubled with a man on base to pick up his 30th RBI of the season.

After six: Chicago 5 St Louis 4.

In the top of the eighth, the Cubs loaded the bases with two out. But Schulte flew out to center to retire the side.

Reulbach would pitch a perfect ninth to give the Cubs their eleventh straight win.

Final score: Chicago 5 St Louis 4.

In the top of the first, Beebe issued his 100th walk of the season and the Pirates had the bases loaded with one out. Leach came up to bat and lined to third for the second out. Nealon was next and he singled to bring two runs in.

In the bottom of the second, with a runner on third and nobody out, Beaumont dropped a Steinfeldt fly ball and Schulte scored to put the Cubs on the board.

In the bottom of the third, a two out single extended Tinker's hit streak to 13 games. The Cubs, however, would fail to score despite the Pirates having committed their third error of the game in the third inning.

Nothing of note happened in the middle innings.

After six: Pittsburgh 2 Chicago 1.

In the top of the eighth, Leach added a crucial run-scoring single.

Phillippe led off the bottom of the eighth by striking out Beebe for his 125th K of the season.

Chance led off the bottom of the ninth with a single for his 150th hit of the season. Steinfeldt hit an RBI double with one out to cut the deficit down to a single run. Then, with two out, Slagle tied the game with a run-scoring double of his own. Kling then grounded to the pitcher and the game went into extra innings.

After nine: Pittsburgh 3 Chicago 3.

In the bottom of the tenth, Sheckard hit a one out double but injured his leg sliding into second and had to leave the game. He was replaced by Solly Hofman. One out later, Chance singled to bring Hofman home with the winning run.
