Game freezes

Game freezes when I'm trying to access "options" menu in the middle of a ballgame and I have to use ctrl alt del to close it. What may be causing this?

Hmm, I'm not really sure.

Are you on a PC or Mac?

Do you have any issues with the in-game play itself, any lagging or white or black flashing screens?

Are you running any other programs at the same time as OOTP?

The first thing I'd suggest for any in-game issues would be an update of your video card drivers (possibly your OS as well, though that's less likely to matter).

PC

I have no issue with anything else, in fact I've played 250 hours so far with no problems whatsoever.

Problem exists both when I have other apps opened and when OOTP and Steam are the only ones.

All the drivers are up to date. Used the integrated card to run the game instead of the NVIDIA one but the problem persists.

Have you verified game files in Steam?
I would back up the saved games folder and uninstall-reinstall.
I do not know enough technical info to help much more.

I have very little in the way of bright ideas at the moment unfortunately. It's a very unusual issue. I'm honestly not sure how to solve it unless I can find something in my researches and that hasn't happened so far...

Are you playing in 3d view mode, broadcast or webcast? If you play in a different mode, especially switching out of 3d, does the same thing still happen?

That's unlikely to help in this case, as this is quite surely a computer related issue, not any sort of issue with the save game itself.

I'm having the same issue. I've had to ctrl+alt+del twice tonight because everything freezes up. 1st Game is going fine until I clicked substitution tab then everything freezes up except the sound. In the 2nd game, I was in the game play screen, entirely different ballpark, teams, etc when I clicked on a fielder to see his stats and it froze up also. Everything is up to date and I am not using the Steam version.

I tried it again today under different circumstances (exhibition game, continuing season game, etc) and it froze in the game screen as soon as I selected a tab or a player or anything else other than the play buttons. I re-installed the game and it made no difference. I don't know if the last update affected it because it had been a while since I had played, however I continued to update.

Are you running any other programs at the same time as OOTP? If so, try restarting your computer, then shutting them down and see if that helps.

Especially an anti-virus or firewall can cause some problems at times. So when running them, make sure to whitelist OOTP in them, then try again.

Beyond that, have you made any major changes to your system since the game worked well? New hardware, major OS updates, new anti-virus etc?

Good News! I got it to work as it is supposed to. I tried all those things you mentioned and had really done no upgrades other than my graphics card updates, however nothing really changed otherwise. Problems still continued. Right before going NUKE and deleting and reinstalling everything, on a fluke I changed my video mode from windowed to full screen and POP! - it worked like normal.

I always ran in windowed before and never had an issue. I don't know what changed, but something did to make it crash/freeze in windowed mode. I hope this wasn't just a temporary thing. If anything changes I'll re-post, but hopefully you won't hear from me again on this issue.

I have the same issue I believe. Switching to full screen fixes the problem. However I much prefer playing windowed mode. Any ideas?

Not for now, but maybe we can take another look at figuring out what might be happening now that we have more info.

Piling on... I also just started having the same issue. Had restarted the game, rebooted the computer, reinstalled OOTP (18.8.76) Switch to Full Screen did the trick. Closed out, put back in Windowed mode and it was broken again. So I'll be playing in Full Screen from now on.
