Game 44

NY's Ray 'Rube' Caldwell gave up 9 hits and 5 walks in 7 IP and reliever McHale went the final 2 allowing a pair walks and one hit and ended up gaining the W as the Yanks scored 3 in the bottom of the 8th to erase a Tiger 2-1 lead. Detroit left runners on base that were in scoring position all game long and paid the price for it.

Wally Pipp banged out a double and triple for NY and Doc Cook's 3 hits and 2 rbi's gave the Yanks an effective 1-2 punch with their 4th and 5th batters in the line up.

June 7 Game 47

The Tigers kept it going with Covey doing the job on the mound and the offense and defense taking care of the rest.

The Tigers roll over the Yanks in the final game of their 4 AWAY/1 HOME series. Kavanaugh....a big Grand Slam.

June 9

The East coast swing continues as the Tigers will play 19 out of 20 on the road with the only home game being the one sandwiched in between the Yankee series. No matter, the team arrived in Boston and cruised to an easy win.

Five in a row for the Detroiters with the 5-1 win at Fenway Park. The Tigers are now 6 games back of the White Sox.

Game 51

The Tigers rolled over the Red Sox, again, as Dauss hurled a shutout and batted in a run in the 4-0 contest. Hooks is now 8-5 and the Tigers have now have 4 game cushion (2nd place) over the 3rd place Boston Red Sox.

Head to Head

The problem for the Tigers right now is that they seem to be virtually the only ball club that can stand up to the White Sox (aside from the Senators who are 2-2).

Game 52 - June 12

Small ball. Two successful H&R plays and a SB/E paved the way to a Tiger win in the first game of the series with Philly.

Games 53 and 54

The Tigers beat the A's 7-1 behind Covelski and Donnie Bush's 3 hits

Two days later the A's win 4-2 as Strange and Bush each commit a pair of errors paving the way to two unearned runs.

Chicago 38-14
Detroit 34-20

Games 55-57 Tigers at Senators

Game 1
Tough loss as Burns and Bush errors give away 2 runs and Detroit suffers for it as they are on the short end of a 6-5 game. Cobb 2 hits, as Detroit out hit the Senators 10 to 6.

Game 2
Three more errors account for 2 unearned as the Detroiters lose another close one, 7-5. Veach had a pair of 3 baggers for the Tigers.

Game 3
Two more errors lead to two unearned runs in the 2-1 contest but this time it is Washington kicking the ball around. Don't blame the Big Train as he yielded on two runs on 4 hits in the CG loss. Covelski gets the W and is now 11-3. Kavanaugh (3) and the Peach (2) accounted for all the Tiger hits off of Walter.

So, Detroit takes 1 of 3 and returns to Navin Field to await the St. Louis Browns. The White Sox after dropping 2 in a row have reeled off 3 straight and lead the Tigers by 7 games.

Game 58

The wheels came off late in the contest as the Tigers executed a perfect 7th inning H&R with Cobb and Crawford with 0 outs but they couldn't bring Ty home as a K and a DP on a SF attempt killed the rally.

Conversely the Brownies scored 4 in the 8th (all with 2 out) and then tacked on 4 more in the 9th to turn it into a route.

Game 59

Another 8th inning meltdown defensively as the Brownies broke up a 2-2 game with a pair of 2 out runs. The quiet Tiger bats couldn't muster any kind of rally as Earl Hamilton broke a string of 3 straight losses with the W and is now 4-5 for the Browns. Chicago White Sox keep winning and are 9.5 games ahead of Detroit.

The Tigers get round trippers from Stanage (1) and Ty (1) as they roll over St. Louis, but trail the series 1-2.

Game 62

The Tigers could only manage one game of 4 against the 7th place Browns and lose an opportunity to pick up a game on the White Sox who lost.
