I thought Oakland had better teams in Late 80's and early 70's.

I have gotten a really good league with using that listing....it's given me lots of options and ideas for historical leagues which I play almost exclusively.

Here are the top teams by fWAR, adjusted to a 162 game season, for 1876-2016. The number is the team's expected wins over 162 games (essentially their adjusted WAR plus 48).
128 - 1876 Chicago White Stockings 118 - 1927 New York Yankees 114 - 1902 Pittsburgh Pirates 113 - 1969 Baltimore Orioles 113 - 1998 Atlanta Braves 113 - 1905 New York Giants 111 - 2001 Seattle Mariners 111 - 1897 Baltimore Orioles That's the top 8. Wasn't sure if the second Baltimore team counted as a repeat since it was obviously a different franchise than the 1969 team. Here is the rest of the top 30. Asterisks denote a WW2 season. 111 - 1879 Providence Grays (unfortunately not available in OOTP) 111 - 1944 St. Louis Cardinals* 110 - 1931 New York Yankees 110 - 1939 New York Yankees 109 - 1896 Baltimore Orioles 109 - 1894 Baltimore Orioles 109 - 1976 Cincinnati Reds 108 - 1880 Chicago White Stockings 108 - 1974 Los Angeles Dodgers 108 - 1997 Atlanta Braves 108 - 1886 Detroit Wolverines 108 - 1943 St. Louis Cardinals* 108 - 1882 Chicago White Stockings 108 - 1942 New York Yankees* 107 - 1898 Baltimore Orioles 107 - 2016 Chicago Cubs 107 - 1908 New York Giants 107 - 1911 New York Giants 107 - 1948 Cleveland Indians 107 - 1885 New York Giants 107 - 1881 Chicago White Stockings 106 - 1953 Brooklyn Dodgers I'd just been playing around with this data recently and stumbled on this post and thought I'd share. |
