Apr. 8 (NL); Thur. Apr. 9 (AL) Season closes: Sun. Oct. 4 All-Star Game: Tue. July 14 Total scheduled doubleheaders: 48 Average home stand length: 6.9 games Average of longest home stands: 13.1 games Longest home stand: 17 games (ML4, MIN) Average road trip length: 6.9 games Average of longest road trips: 13.0 games Longest road trip: 17 games (SEA, SDN) Average stretch of consecutive play: 8.3 days Average of longest stretches of consecutive play: 19.0 days Longest stretch of consecutive play: 20 days (nineteen clubs) Series scheduled 1-game: 001 2-game: 096 3-game: 467 4-game: 123 5-game: 004 TOTAL:w691 Also included for this year is a strike-shortened version of the schedules. A players' strike which began on Fri. June 12 and ended on Fri. July 31 interrupted the season. The All-Star Game was rescheduled to Sun. Aug. 9, and regular season play was resumed on Mon. Aug. 10. A total of 693 games were affected by the work stoppage, and all were cancelled. This means that the teams will play a varying number of games in the season, ranging from 105-111 games, with the average value being 109 games. The schedule file was created by taking the original schedule and eliminating all games on or between June 12th and August 9th. In the real MLB, to counter the shortened season, a split-season format was adopted to double the number of teams in the post-season from 2 to 4 per league. Unfortunately, OOTP cannot do a split-season format. However, the increased number of teams in the playoffs can be mimicked by adjusting the playoff settings in the league options to have the top 2 teams from each division qualifying for the post-season instead of just the division winners. Though it won't be the technically accurate first-half and second-half winners, it will at least be the 2 teams from each division, in this instance the top 2 teams at the end of the abbreviated season. The one further drawback is that OOTP simply rates the four playoff teams 1-4 in each league and then matches them up regardless of division. Thus, in the first round you could have an East Division team playing a West Division team, which is also technically incorrect. However, this could be rationalized by saying MLB allowed this for this season only to increase fan interest to counter the effects of the strike. Personally, I think the expanded playoffs are an important factor in this season, so I would use the method described above. However, if one prefers to only have the division winners qualify for the post-season in spite of it being a shortened season, one is free to do that also. The choice is yours. A players' strike which occurred on Aug. 6-7 caused a two-day stoppage in play. A total of 25 games were affected by the strike and 23 of them were rescheduled for play before the end of the season, either as parts of doubleheaders or on common off days. There were four games which had to be played in the other team's park in order to be made up: two SEA at CAL games postponed by the strike were made up as CAL at SEA, thus giving CAL 79 home games for the year and SEA 83 home games; and two MIN at OAK games postponed by the strike were made up as OAK at MIN, resulting in OAK having 79 homes games for the season and MIN 83 home games. Two games were not rescheduled for play before the close of the season due to a lack of suitable common off days and the fact that the contesting clubs did not play each other during the rest of the season. These two games are BAL at TOR and ML4 at TEX; these four teams will only have 161 games played for the season unless either of these games are needed to resolve a tight pennant race. Should that prove to be the case, then one or both of these games would be played on Mon. Oct. 7. For example, at the close of the regular season on Sun. Oct. 6, let's say Detroit has a record of 92-70 and Toronto a record of 91-70. Because Toronto is only a half-game behind Detroit, this means the unplayed game against Baltimore might now determine whether or not there is a tie for the pennant. As a result, on Mon. Oct. 7 the BAL at TOR game that had been postponed by the strike would now be played. If Toronto wins, there is now a tie for the pennant between Toronto and Detroit and the tiebreaking playoff game would be played on Tues. Oct. 8; if Toronto loses, then Detroit clinches the pennant. It is only in situations similar to this that the BAL at TOR and ML4 at TEX postponed games would be made up. If there is no such potential pennant-tying or pennant-clinching aspect, then these games would not be played. Last edited by Le Grande Orange; 12-11-2004 at 12:02 AM. |

Sorry for the slow updates as of late, but 'tis the season for other pursuits to take up one's time.
On the positive side, there are only 16 seasons left to go. |

The most accurate answer is "eventually."
For various reasons, I haven't been able to get those last 16 seasons finished off yet. Isn't there some saying about how the last mile of a race is the hardest to run? I'm trying to get the remaining seasons proofed properly so I can get the file sent to Retrosheet first before posting the schedule files, since there may be a few small corrections to be made. Might as well do it now, rather than do it later and then find some changes that would require reposting some of the schedule files. I apologize to everyone for the delay in getting things finished up to the present. It's just that the proofing process is really time consuming, plus I have lots of other things I've had to attend to in the interim. Hopefully I can get the next five years (1989-1993, including the lockout revised schedule for 1990) up in the next week or two. Again, sorry for the slow progress of late. |

Oh don't worry about it. I was just wondering as I hadn't seen an update in a while. I (and I'm sure everyone else) totally understands that real life can be a bitch sometimes and get the way of more important things (like schedules for OOTP).

Just thought I'd offer a little update on things. I've proofed the 1989-1993 seasons, now I just have to execute the corrections (which is a lot more tedious and time-consuming that I ever thought it would be). Once that's done I'll send the files off to gmo so he can do his wizardy on them to get them converted to OOTP-compatible format. Then it's a matter of posting them up.
Hopefully by the end of next week. |

A lockout of the players which occurred during spring training caused a delay in the start of the season. In order to give sufficient time for spring training, the schedule was officially revised by MLB. The start of the season was pushed back one week while the end of the season was pushed back three days. The season now began on Mon. Apr. 9th and closed on Wed. Oct. 3rd. A total of 78 games were affected by the lockout and all of them were rescheduled for play before the end of the season, either played as parts of doubleheaders, on common off days as one game series, or as one series on the last three extra days of the season. As a result all clubs played a full 162 game schedule. |
