In an extremely impressive defense of his WBO JWW belt, Adrien Broner served notice to anyone from 140 to 147 that beating him won't be an easy task.
The rugged & usually durable Greg Haugen hit the deck 3 times in 9 rounds due to Broner right crosses (2nd round for a 6 count, 6th for a count of 9 & Greg stayed down when another sledgehammer right ended the fight @ 2:19 of the 9th). After the fight, Jim Gray interviewed the champ & when Jim asked who Broner wanted next, Broner replied with his standard: "Anyone can get it, AmeriCAN, MexiCAN..." to which Jim told him to knock that off & show some class & respect. An enraged Broner asked Jim if he should check with him 1st on his choice of words & then told Jim he should know his role & place. "I'm the star & you're the lowly interviewer - got it?" said Broner. The 2 men then had to be separated & Broner stormed off & out of the ring to his happy fans in the Cincinnati crowd. Long time IBF SW champ, Zolani Pethelo, put on another dominating performance with a 15UD over China's, Xiong Zhao Zhong. All 3 judges had the fight 148-137 as Zolani made his 18th title defense & is now 22-0.
He really is the Mayweather of the Straws - nobody can touch him! He out punched Zhong, 596 to 181. Also, Puerto Rico's Ivan Calderon moved to 7-1-1 with a 15UD over Tamsanqa Sogcwe. Scores were 145-140, 144-142 & 146-140 in Ivan's 2nd defense of his WBO SW belt. Ivan landed 600 punches @ an incredible 67% rate compared to 180 (15%) for the challenger. |

After another complete domination, I'm thinking about having a 4 man unification tourney with 4 of my 5 world champs. There's just not enough talent @ SW to give him much comp.

In a much more impressive title defense, Anthony Mundine basically turned Richard Gutierrez into a sparring partner for 12 rounds.
Mundine dropped Richard 7 times en route to a 12th round TKO. It was his 2nd defense of his WBA JMW belt after his less than stellar 1st defense in July. He was up 110-94 & 109-94 twice on the cards & had both of Richard's eyes swelling - orange. Mundine is now 11-0-1 (8 KO's) @ 154. |

England's Chris Eubank, Jr. used his speed & youth to outbox Matt Vanda for 15 rounds in a rather boring fight but in doing so, Chris took the IBF MW belt.
Vanda came to the UK to make his 1st title defense but Eubank's 11 year age advantage appeared to hinder the slower American during the fight. It was Vanda's 1st loss @ 160 & he's now 13-1 with 8 KO's. Chris won on the cards: 147-139, 145-141 & 146-140. Chris also won the PL battle: 367 (34%) to 159 (10%). Adonis Stevenson looked sensational in making his 2nd title defense of his WBC LHW belt in snowy Canada.
Argentine import, Robert F. Bolonti didn't last 6 minutes as an Adonis right hook ended matters @ 2:50 of round 2. Bolonti lasted 11 rounds earlier this year until he was also knocked out by WBA LHW champ, Chad Dawson. |

Over the holidays Sechew Powell made the 5th defense of his WBO JMW belt with an impressive 11th round combo KO of the big punching, Jorge Melendez.
Powell came to Puerto Rico to once again prove he's one of the better 154 lbers @ this time & improved to 24-2. |

My Bloody Valentine!
Actually, no blood in this one but IBO JWW champ, Ray Mancini, came to England to make the 5th defense of his belt vs. Tyrone Nurse.
Nurse won the IBF title last year with a surprising 4th round KO of Edwin Rosario. But rather than defend it against a mandatory challenger, he took a bigger $ fight vs. Ray. Hopefully he puts that $ to good use because Ray's power carried the day dropping Nurse 4 times before a picture perfect left hook ended Nurse's night @ 2:47 of the 9th. Ray was up on all 3 cards: 78-73 & held a 257 - 166 punches landed edge. |

In cold & snowy (I'm assuming) Vienna, Austria, WBO SMW champ, Errol Christie, came to make his 2nd title defense against local hero - Ramsen Alchanov.
Errol dropped Ramsen in the 1st for a flash KD but after that, the youth & aggression of the much younger challenger appeared to swing the tide for a while. By the 4th however, the crafty champ & his boxing skill appeared to take back over & a overhand right out of nowhere ended the fight in the 8th - 2:59. The scores reflected the close bout - 66-66 & 67-65 twice for Errol. |

How has Pacquiao got on since the Powell loss?

lol, good question Bob. To be honest he's not done much lately but I'm thinking of matching him with old warhorse vet - 6 Heads Lewis for a big spring/summer fight.

Nice, South of France - In a fight that many expected to be very competitive turned out to be very one sided as Martin Murray basically bullied & beat up Giovanni Lorenzo to take the IBO MW belt via a UD - 146-135 & 147-134 twice.
Some felt Gio would have the slight edge coming into the fight but Martin's relentless pressure proved too much as he dropped the champ 3 times in the fight to easily win the title. Martin landed 474 (45%) to Gio's 220 (17%). Martin remains perfect @ 13-0, 9 KO's. Gio's now 12-2, 10 KO's - having just won the IBO belt in December. |

Gennady Golovkin also came to the south of France to make the 4th defense of his WBC title. Souleymane Diallo, fighting out of France, took the challenge against the MW monster & lasted until 0:51 of the 3rd when a combo from GGG ended the fight.
GGG is now 20-0, with 15 KO's. |

Hometown cooking?
After dropping to 140 last year, Adrien Broner finally got around to making his 1st title defense of his WBA WW crown against the rugged, Robert Guerrero.
Fighting in front of his fans in Akron, Broner was able to retain his title by ekking out a 15 UD: 144-141 & 143-142, twice. Watching the fight, Robert appeared to be & was the busier fighter, out punching Broner 329 (23%) to 262 (39%). The only KD happened @ the end of the 8th when a Broner upper dropped Robert for a 1 count. That 10-8 round turned out to be the difference. Broner's face showed the volume of punches he received with his left eye being orange. Broner is now 2-0 (1 KO) @ 147 & Robert's 5-2 (2 KO's). |

Lee Purdy cruised to a 15UD over domestic rival Bradley Skeete in his 1st defense of his IBO WW strap.
Purdy out worked & out punched his fellow Brit 379 to 265 causing Brad's right eyes to swell (red) in the process. After the fight Lee said there's no need for him to rush into any fights with Kell or Amir, he'll give them a shot when he thinks they bloody well earned it! Note: Special thanks to bob bask, bear & Jackyle for helping to produce & me to find these fighters! |
