Customizing nations.txt and cities.txt
If this is in the wrong forum, I apologize.
I am going to create my own unique world (last one listed in my signature), and the league is going to take place in just one country. I have about 500 cities, with fictional "states" and lat. and long. numbers. I have a couple of things I would like clarified, because I've tried the setup and the game throws a fatal error and closes. 1. Can you have just one nation in the nations.txt file? And if so, what ID do you give it? 1, 227 (after last nation listed in normal nations.txt file), or some other number? 2. What number do you assign to the REGION? I used 0 (guessing) and 4 (USA region) in my two attempts. 3. What number do you assign to the Ethnicity? I used 0 (as the USA and others) and 100 for the percent. I then matched single ethnicity nations. Here's what my nation was listed as in the nations.txt file: 227,Shaelic Commonwealth,Shaelic Commonwealth,SCW,Shaelic,4,3,0,100,,,, I then used my custom cities.txt file with the 500 cities. I assigned each one the number of the nation (first attempt - 1, second attempt - 227, as seen above). When the game loaded, all the cities were list as 'Team 1' and so on, i.e. no city names. When I would try to start the game, it would throw the error (a windows pop up box about a fatal error) and then close. I then tried all of this again with my nation listed in the default nations.txt file. It worked that way, selecting the right cities, etc., but the only problem is, since I am in 'Region 4' I was getting players from Mexico, Canada, Japan, etc. in the league, which is exactly what I don't want. I hope I am being clear as to what I am asking. If not, please let me know and I'll give you any information you need. Thanks for the help, and again, if this is not the right place, I apologize. Otherwise, I'm loving the game! |

In my experience, the game doesn't like it much if there's just one nation. It sounds like you're doing the right thing. Try putting a second nation in there, a dummy nation or something, and just see if it works then. Sorry, don't have time to look more closely right now! Moving this to the right place, too! Thanks, battists.
I did some more experimenting. It won't accept a single nation. I added a second nation and it worked. Here is something of interest. The game reads in the nations from the end of the file (EOF) first. That is, the second nation I added appears first in all drop down menus. When I selected my primary nation (Shaelic Commonwealth) all the team cities appeared as expected. So you have to have at least two nations in the nations.txt file. It's being pieced together slowly but surely |

I do think this forum is a more appropriate place for the topic at hand . . . |

My city.txt has just teams from Michigan. And nations.txt has just the United States. I only get players from City Name, MI, USA.
